A. Introduction

Background Information and Statement of the Problem

The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic has brought a lot of changes in many

aspects of the people’s lives and the community as a whole. Specially in our Education System..

For the field of education, a continuity plan for learning has been laid, and actions were taken to

ensure that the learners still acquire access to education despite the present situation.

The Department of Education (DepEd) implemented the different modalities of learning

delivery. These are; online learning, modular learning, face to face learning and blended learning.

However in some public school only the modular learning is implemented to ensure the safety of

the teachers and students. But some students has a struggles during this period because of the

lack of knowledge, skills and devices, internet connection, irrelevance and issues with system

access were the problems experienced by students in the Covid-19 pandemic.

In Napolan National High School, many students are experiencing struggles in relation to

distance modular learning. There are some feedbacks from parents and students received

personally or through online and SMS indicated that students are no longer prioritizing actual

learning, but simply the accomplishment of all the tasks in their Self-Learning Modules.
This study aims to examined and answer the following questions about the struggles of

The Non Honors Grade 11 Students During New Normal ;

1. What are the struggles encountered by the non honors student during new

normal?

2.What are the affects of those struggles?

3.How they manage to overcome those struggles?

Blona,R.(2005) also claimed that students experience stress since some are trying to

cope up with the demands of adapting to a new living environment, new peers, academic

pressure, and sexual concerns.

In the study of Kwaah,C.Y. and Essilfie, G. (2017) where they studied the stress and

coping strategies of students who were taking distance education at the University of Cape

Coast, Ghana, results showed that academic workload, high frequency of examinations,

financial problems, and family problems were the major causes of stress among the students.

Salvacion, MLD S.(2004)The common causes of students’ struggles include their

academic subjects, requirements and projects, oral and written examinations, announced or

unannounced quizzes and graded recitations, finances, issues with parents or guardians, love

life, their professors and instructors, and many more (Salvacion, MLD S.2004).

B. Methodology

Theoretical framework

Similarly, Foucault argues, ‘every educational system is a means of maintaining

or modifying the appropriateness of discourses with the knowledge and power they

bring with them’ (Foucault 1971: 19).
