Poverty and resiliency.

These two words perfectly describe the predicament that

these Filipino people are experiencing. Tracing the roots of poverty would be almost
impossible to do. What this documentary helped me to see is the raw representation of
poverty in the Philippines. It told me that the poverty in the Philippines is much worse
than what I thought, they eat leftover foods from restaurants because that’s the only
thing they can afford. Another thing that this documentary taught me is how resilient
Filipinos are. They are talking about their misfortune with a smile on their face and a
little bit of laughter. Maybe it can be considered as a silver lining but to me, it just shows
how resilient they are. The situation of Payatas, Manila has something to do with proper
waste management. Yes, proper waste disposal is being practiced properly but all the
waste collected would only end up in dumpsites like that in Payatas, Manila.

I also want to acknowledge how documentaries are being a tool to let the world
know the stories of those who do not have the power to tell their stories themselves.
Documentaries like this are not made to gain sympathy or for people to pity the less
fortunate. Documentaries like this are made to show the realities of these marginalized
people. What this documentary is giving to the people is that now the people of the
Philippines are aware of their situation and the responsible people might know what to
do about this systematic poverty. For the youth, may this be an opportunity to find our
purpose, to bring light to these people and to do something to make their lives better, it
is time to make a difference.

It may be hard to resonate with them due to our differences but the thing that will
unite everyone is humanity. If we care for them as human beings, we will be able to
create change. It is sad to see that there are people living in poverty and it is in the
same situation everyday. Ending poverty might be almost impossible to do but the least
we can do is to raise awareness and help in every way possible.
