Reaction

This paper expresses my reaction on a story entitled “(Juan Tamad) Lazy John
and The Value of Hardwork written by Renata Saboraoud. The story was situated in the
modern Philippine settings. The purpose of this story is to enlighten the minds of every
Filipino especially those other races who consider us as (Tamad) or lazy.

I salute to the author of this story for introducing everybody about the value of
hardwork to restore the dignity of all Filipinos. It is very important to stop them from
scolding us and believing in something that is not really true. We have to stop them.

As a Filipino the (Juan Tamad) story is somewhat like an insault for all of us. Being
figured as (Tamad) or lazy is definitely untrue. I never agreed for once in my life that we
are indolent. That would be a big mistake to believe in that perception. I could say that
the story is just a myth. A myth that could be used as springboard for learning the lessons
pertaining to character development.

As far as I know, Filipinos are hardworking people. They were hired by the
companies in other country because of their diligence to the task assigned to them as
what I have observed with myself. They were trusted and cared by their employer. In
this manner, how did other people see us as indolent? Inspite of those proofs, did they
still figure us like that? They must not so judgemental just because of a story.

As of today, there are thousands of Filipino working abroad since they want to earn
living for their families left at home in the Philippines. They work very hard and sacrifice
their own happiness just to give their loveones a best life they ever dreamed. Where is
being indolent there? There is nothing for sure, never was.

However, this story that explains the value of hardwork would have a great help in
teaching the Grade 5 pupils. They would learn how important is hardwork in reaching
dreams in life or in doing any kind of task or everything that we want to do. It must be
thought to them that we are not lazy as what other races see us. They must know that
Juan Tamad story is just an imagination. Most importatly, they mus be called up to help
in restoring the dignity of Filipinos and eliminate others mindsets about us which would
start from themselves/ourselves.
