MICA

Frequently mica is present in sand and sandstone. The most micaceous

sand seems to be river sand, followed by beach sand. Wind-blown sand
usually contains no or very little mica.

Sand and silt are composed mostly of primary minerals like quartz, mica,
feldspar, hornblende, and augite. Whereas Clay minerals such as
kaolinite, smectite, chlorite, micas are main components of raw
materials of lay and formed in presence of water.

Silt does not have a precise composition. It usually has a mix of micas,
feldspar, quartz and clay minerals. Silt is made up of rock and mineral
particles that are larger than clay but smaller than sand. The small part
of the silt is mostly clay. The rough size fraction is mostly quartz and
feldspar grains.
