WRITING
BEGAN AT 8TH CENTURY BC IN GREECE

The alphabet came from Phoenicia and was written on


Egyptian papyrus
First library was made in 8th century B.C.

Materials used were wood, stone, papyrus, hide, bone, and


parchment.
PRINTING
Began in Europe in the late 1400's
A German goldsmith developed a printing system using
Chinese paper
A more effective means of recording information in a
standard and uniform way, printing allowed the same
document to be distributed to many different people
MASS MEDIA
BEGINS IN MID 19TH CENTURY

Western Europe and Eastern US developed the mass media in the


mid 19th Century.
Began with the convergence of advances in paper production,
printing press methods, and the invention of the telegraph
With easier distribution of printed materials, literacy relevant and
available to more people.
ENTERTAINMENT
STARTED IN EUROPE AND USA TOWARDS THE END OF THE 19TH CENTURY

Technology that was included in the entertainment age were


stored sound, affordable cameras, and motion photgraphy.

With the advent of cinema and mass media that went


beyond print, visual and auditory experiences could be
shared by people in vastly different areas of the world

The Current Age


Convergence of computer, broadcasting, satellite, and visual
technology
The internet is unique among the other mediums in history in that it
provides both one to one communication like the telephone and one
to many communication like the television.
