Discussion:

The fertilizer used contained the ratio 10:50:10 which represents Nitrogen: Phosphorus: Potassium
along with small amounts of magnesium and trace elements. Plants obtain nitrogen from nitrate ions to
make proteins which is used for plant growth and to make chlorophyll. Phosphorus makes ATP and
some proteins and potassium is used to help maintain the correct salt balance in cells and it helps in
photosynthesis. The plant in the fertilizer had the most amount of leaves and was the healthiest of the
three plants. The plant in the soil didn’t grow as fast as the one in the fertilizer however it didn’t grow as
slower as the one in water only. The plant in water alone grew the slowest before it started to die and
lose its leaves as well as its strength to stay upright .
