After the piling works of an axis is completed, execution of the pile cap is performed
through the following stages.
1- The survey team locates the dimensions of the pile cap taking into consideration
the required spacing for the formwork erection ( 1.00 m from each side ),
according to the type of soil and the depth of the pile cap the excavation slopes
are as follows:
In case of the clayey soil the excavation sides are vertical.

In case of sandy soil the excavation slope is (1:1).

2- Excavation work starts an excavator till the exact foundation level of the lean
concrete is reached, during that the level is checked by the foreman in charge of
works.
3- After the trimming works are finished the survey team checked the locations of
the executed piles to assure that its deviations are within the specifications limits
(the tolerance for positioning shall not be more than 50 mm addition to the
permitted tolerance for verticality due to the cut off depth from ground level)
and they sketch it on an As-Built drawings In case this tolerance is exceeded a
structural solution is proposed which will be studied by the design office. The as
built record of the location of each pile what ever is the value of its direction
from its design location should be signed by the site representative and
submitted to NAT redesign my be required.
4- A shuttering for the lean concrete is prepared according to the required
dimensions, supported and checked for its dimensions and levels. A concrete
order is prepared for the required amount of concrete and the concrete is poured
and leveled.
5- Before the leam concrete is finished the levels are checked, the pile trimming
works starts using smell jack hammers till reaching the cut off level (8-10 cm
above the leap concrete level).
6- The survey team locates the fixed guide points for the axis of the pile cap they
sketch it with full dimensions.
7- The formwork is erected in its proper positions supported. The inner surface of
the plywood has be coated with proper a approved release agent to facilitate the
process of formwork removal after casting, then the steel reinforcement erection
works follows.
8- Figure ( 1 ) Shows the erection of all the formwork elements.
9- The site engineer in charge of the works has to check the numbers, dimensions
and diameters of bars for each pile cap on delivery according to the approved
bending lists.
10- Bottom steel bars are arranged in their proper places, their number and spacing
is checked by the site engineer for each direction. After the bottom
reinforcement is erected, the top reinforcement and the column starter bars are
fixed taking into consideration that a template with the inner dimensions of the
column (stirrups dimensions) must be placed to adjust the:
Position of the column starter bars.

 Plastic spacers are used to assure that the steel bars are arranged in their
proper positions with the specified concrete cover (5 cm for the sides and the
top) for both vertical and horizontal directions. All spacers must be clipped
into the bars.
11- After checking the level of the top reinforcement and the cover for column
starter bars the work is handled to the organization.
12- After that a concrete order is made with the required amount complying to the
specifications limits. After making a slump test and measuring the temperature
concrete is poured directly form the truck mixer through wooden channels fixed
to the top of the formwork or by any other means in case of the presence of any
obstacles, taking into consideration that concrete is not to be mixed or placed
when the shade air temperature is 38 C or above.
All concrete is compacted using electric or air vibrators (2.5-3 inch

diameter). The used vibrators must have a minimum frequency and sufficient
amplitude to consolidate the concrete effectively.
13- After one day from the concrete casting, the form is removed and curing of the
casted concrete starts by applying wet jute for 10 days to the concrete surface for
both vertical and horizontal directions taking into consideration all the
requirements of section 4A.04.21 in the technical specifications. A curing agent
will be proposed later and the time of curing agent.
14- The pile cap exposed surfaces is coated with approved oxidized bitumen
applied at a rate of 1.5 Kg/m2 each coat.

6- Inspection:
6-1- Intervening parties:
 QC team of Arabco.
 Site engineer of JV.
 QC team of JV.
 NAT engineer.
6-2- Follow-Up Documents:
ETF & ICL documents will be used and signed by the intervening parties as
confirmation of the performed checks, ICL for the pile caps (Annex 1).
6-3- Tolerance:
 Variation in dimensions in plan (Minus 10 mm or Plus 20 mm).
 Misplacement or eccentricity (2% of the width in direction of misplacement but
not more than 25 mm).
 Reduction in thickness (Minus 2%).
