5. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

Method of Statement (MOS)

Concrete Repair

Issue Date : 2018-06-05 Issue : 1 Rev. No : 0 Ref. No : MOS-CVL-11

Project :

• HILTI Chipping Hammer, Jack Hammer (if required), hammer and chisel (where required), Water tank, Hand Tools for finishing, Wire Brush, 1 bag concrete mixer
and any other equipment if required.

6. PROCEDURE

• Material Data Sheet of proposed / major repair material shall be submitted to client / company for approval.
• Upon Company’s approval the material will be used as per manufacturer’s instructions.
6.2 TYPES OF REPAIR:
Following are categories defined for the concrete repair.
Repair type I Surface Imperfections (Blow holes, Grout loss and Tie rod Holes, Honey Combing)
Repair type II & III Medium and deep surface fills (10-190mm)
Repair type IV Concrete cracks (Structural and Non-structural)
Repair type V Column Interface (Construction joint between column neck and column)
Repair type VI Bulged concrete repair work
Repair type VII Drilled Holes
6.3 MAJOR CONCRETE REPAIR METHOD:
Repair type II & III comes under this heading. Surface preparation shall be followed as per the below mentioned steps and more stringent requirements from material
data sheets shall be taken into consideration.
• All concrete segregation portions to be marked before start of breaking.
• Saw cut all around the marked area that are to be cut by angle grinder or similar to produce a regular profile for at least 10-15mm deep.
• The predetermined area shall be broken out to remove all substandard concrete.
• Breaking out should continue until sound, dense concrete is encountered.
• The substance should be prepared to a rough surface having at least 5mm amplitude at 20mm frequency.
• Stuck up tie rods surrounding area shall be chipped by manually or mechanical method and tie rod shall be cut at a distance of concrete cover.
• If the repair area is more than 50mm, the substrate shall be pre soak with clean water for a minimum period prior to the application of cementitious repair. All
water shall be drained from the formwork prior to the commencing with the application of the repair work.
• The exposed steel should be cleaned by manual or mechanical wire brush.
• More stringent requirement from material data sheet if any shall be taken into consideration.
6.4 Proposed material for the repair work:
Repair type II & III
Items to do before start of repair:
• All RFI’s must be approved at various stages.
• No repair work shall be undertaken before QA/QC inspection of defective works.
• Only chipping is required for minor repairs and hair cracks.
• For honey combing, all the defective portion must be removed upto the sound concrete.
6.5 EXECUTION
• Ensure that defective area shall be thoroughly cleaned and freed from sand dust, shavings dust or other debris by air jetting before repairing.
• Ensure that substrate must be free from oil, grease or any defective or any adhering material. If surface is defective and have laitance, it must be cut back to sound
base
• Soak concrete substrate for a minimum of two hours continuously prior to place approved materials on all the defective surfaces. Immediately prior to placing, all
free water should be removed leaving the substrate in a surface dry condition
• Repairing will start only after the final QC inspection and approval.
• The approved repairing material and mix design will be used.
• Ensure to fulfill the requirement of specification for quality control testing of the activity.
• The repairing material will be mixed manually for repairs according to the literature and mix design.
• The repaired surfaces must be cured as per specifications.
