Festival dance are cultural dances performed to the strong beats of
percussion instruments by a community of people sharing the same
culture  usually done in honor of Patron Saint or in thanksgiving of a
bountiful  harvest. Festival dances may be religious or secular in
nature. But the best  thing about festival is that they add to the merry
making and festivities where  they are celebrated , there reason why
they are called festival dances after all.  Festival dances draw the
people’s culture by portraying the people’s ways life  through
movements, costumes and implements inherent to their place or
origin.

Kadayawan Festival or Kadayawan sa Dabaw is a celebration of good

harvest and it is one of the oldest festivals celebrated in the
Philippines. This globally famous festival is a weeklong celebration
and thanksgiving for nature’s bountiful harvest. Kadayawan Festival is
being celebrated in the month of August in Davao City in the region of
Mindanao. Kadayawan is derived from the prehistoric word
“madayaw,” a warm and friendly greeting also used to explain a thing
that is valuable, superior, beautiful, good, or profitable, “Kadayawan”
in Mandaya means anything that brings fortune, a celebration of life, a
thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties
of harvest and serenity of living. Ethnic tribes around Mt. Apo usually
gathered during the harvest-time when they had a bountiful harvest to
give thanks to their gods particularly the all-powerful Bathala
(supreme God). According to legend, the occasion is noticeable by
happiness, singing, and
dancing, as well as offerings to their divine protectors.

Bagobo Klata tribe always perform the rice cycle or also known as
Sugod Uno.  The dance is called Miyamas neng ommoy. Ommoy is a
Bagobo term for the  rice grains with out a husks. The dance portrays
the step by step rice culture,  from planting , harvesting to thanksgiving
rituals for a bountiful rice harvest.  For reference you may watch this
