Current and Future Trends of Media Information

TECHNOLOGY IN THE 20TH CENTURY

CONTEXTUAL AWARENESS

Context awareness is the ability of a system or system component to gather information about its
environment at any given time and adapt behaviors accordingly. Contextual or context-aware
computing uses software and hardware to automatically collect and analyze data to guide responses.

HAPTICS TECHNOLOGY

Haptic technology is the use of tactile sensations to stimulate the sense of touch in a user experience.
For example, direct applications of haptic solutions frequently include phone and game controller
vibrations. Haptic science also involves any tactile feedback such as air pressure or sound waves.

GAMIFICATION

Gamification is adding game mechanics into nongame environments, like a website, online community,
learning management system or business' intranet to increase participation. The goal of gamification is
to engage with consumers, employees and partners to inspire collaborate, share and interact.

EYE TRACKING TECHNOLOGY

Eye tracking enables the measurement of eye movements, eye positions, and points of gaze through
various technological processes. In other words, eye tracking identifies and monitors a person’s visual
attention in terms of location, objects, and duration.

BRAINWAVE SENSING / Brainwave Sensor

Wireless brain sensors are devices that are capable of detecting the pressure inside the brain, brain
temperature, pH and brain activity in the form of 'brain waves' reflecting the electrical transmission
within the brain.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is an electrophysiological monitoring method to record the electrical
activity of the brain. Brain sensors are typically noninvasive, with the electrodes placed alongside the
scalp, though invasive electrodes are sometimes used in electrocorticography.

Internet Glasses/smart glasses

Smart glasses offer a way to bring the functionality, imaging, and wireless connectivity found in
smartphones and computers into eyewear. They may appear like normal glasses, but these smart
wearables enable users to experience augmented reality visuals and connect with the virtual world
around them.

VIRTUAL WORLDS

A virtual world is a 3D computer generated community that takes place in real-time, where a lot of
people can work on an endless number of tasks at once. You can create a personal profile (or avatar),
change your look or gender, design your environment and control how you communicate and move. In
the future, you might get home from school/uni/work, kick off your shoes and relax – on your very own
tropical island complete with 5-star resort, a fun park. Later, your friends’ teleport over to party with
you and your favorite band while your avatar buys movie tickets and makes dinner reservations for the
following night.
VOICE AND TONE RECOGNITION

Voice or speaker recognition is the ability of a machine or program to receive and interpret dictation or
to understand and perform spoken commands. Voice recognition has gained prominence and use with
the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent assistants, such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri.
