At least 68 people were confirmed dead in the plane crash in Nepal, the
worst air crash in three decades in the small Himalayan nation. Officials
said they had retrieved the remains of 68 people onboard a 72-seater
passengers aircraft operated by Yeti Airlines before they had to call off the
search operation for the day. The twin-engine ATR 72 aircraft was flying
from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a tourist town located 200 kilometres west,
when it crashed while attempting to land at a newly opened airport.
Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority said that the plane was carrying 68
passengers including 15 foreign nationals, as well as four crew members.
The foreigners included five Indians, four Russians, two South Koreans, and
one each from Ireland, Australia, Argentina and France.
The song ‘Naatu Naatu’, from the wildly popular Telugu film RRR, made
history at the 80th Golden Globes as it became the first Indian song to win
the Best Original Song award. Composed by M M Keeravani, and sung by
Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, it is an energetic song featuring the
film’s lead actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR. Some of the other nominees in
the category were Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ from Marvel’s Black Panther:
Wakanda Forever, Taylor Swift’s ‘Carolina’ from Where the Crawdads
Sing and Lady Gaga’s ‘Hold My Hand’ from Top Gun: Maverick. RRR was also
nominated in the Best Non-English Language film category but lost
to Argentina 1985.
