The Fishermen by Ang Kiuikok was a notable work of visual arts and one of the
premises of cultured figurative expressionism and violent imagery on canvas paper. It
depicted a strong enigma of sovereign democracy under martial law and the repressive
dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos, where it voices out political strife in the veils and
shrouds of metaphor, to cloak in a subliminal message during the marcos regime for the
public fancy and animosity. This painting screams exponents of philippine assemblage
of subjective matter where he portrays the anger in keeping his eyes peeled to the world
that surrounds him. it also alters the conventional depiction of the aesthete where it is a
collective personal reference voyage or experiences between the spiritual awakening in
the ethereal conflict of ignorance and enlightenment confirming to abide tranquil
composure.

The painting depicts a group of three fishermen capturing several fish with a
large net during what appears to be late afternoon, while a blood-red sun hovers in the
center of the artwork against an utterly dark brown background. The three fishermen

are all naked, have abstract anatomy, and are portrayed in imposing but awkward
stances. The fisherman on the left-hand side of the canvas appears to be the most
conventional of the three. He stands tall and straight, a shadow covering his face and
much of his upper torso while both of his arms stretch a triangular-shaped net. A single
huge fish hops in mid-air between his two legs as it is grabbed by the man's part.

The artist's use of geometrical shapes to illustrate the fisherman, their figures
devoid of identifiable qualities or markings, produces movement inside the painting.
Colors in the painting emphasize the presence of the fishing net against the blue
background and underline the concept of motion, intensifying the drama of the setting.
The bright orange sun could also reflect the artist's confidence in God, a glimmering
beacon despite the physical and mental obstacles that come with being human. The
color and shape combination highlights the image of a peaceful struggle, with men
working together in harmony to survive and thrive in a harsh world.

To recapitulate, Ang Kiukok's fisherman artwork devoids the paradigm of

subconscious illumination and keeps our power dry to the almighty being. all
intertwining to form the basis of political, social, and spiritual stimulation of the
abstract anatomy of being a Filipino, it reflects the understanding for allegories in visual
representation and sets colorist tendencies. A favored modernist compositional device,
it takes on added meaning as it hovers above this scene, an emphatic symbol of
constancy and perpetual energy.
