Chapter II: Measurements (ACTIVITY)

1. What is scientific measurement?
Answer: A scientific measurement is a group of numerical or quantitative data that
describes a property of an object or event. A quantity is measured by being compared to
a standard unit.
2. Why are the international system of units used in measurements?
Answer: The international system of units is used to offer the same values for measures,
such as length, weight, and time regardless of where the measurement is made around
the world. A standardized set of units for measuring is required since precise
measurement is a key instrument for conducting science.
3. List the scientific measurements and units. Use the table below to fill in your answer.
(just add table if needed)

Measurements SI Units
Length Meter (m)
Weight Kilogram (kg)
Time Seconds (s)
Current Ampere (A)
Thermodynamic Temperature Kelvin (K)
Substance Amount Mole (mol)
Luminosity Candela (cd)

4. Cite some situations in daily life where a measurement is important.

As an example, when engineers or carpenters build a house, they need to be aware of

the exact measurements of the lot in order to construct the house. It will therefore be
measured in meters or kilometers. Another example is measuring whatever you need to
weigh for the market in grams or kilograms, such as produce, fruit, or meat. Another
example is when you check the temperature of whatever you are cooking or simply
determine the temperature of the room. There are many more situations where
measurements are used because it can be found and used in almost every aspect of
daily life.
