The written argument chosen is that establishing a transparent system of utmost importance is
quite necessary for developing the league and the federation. The necessity for teams to come
clean about abusive coaches cannot be overstated.
This article attains interest because this article directly identifies the fact and figures and victims
as well. In addition, this piece of argumentative writing makes a logical and emotional appeal
because the author of it describes the fears, sensations, and emotions that athletes experience in
the article.

2. I will try to remain neutral in such a manner that I will not incorporate my ideas and emotion
in this article. I didn’t have any experience as an athlete coach, therefore, I wasn’t able to give
my own opinion on this article. I will focus on the argumentative techniques presented in this
article.

This article is published by the Columnist “Robin Abcarian” on Oct 9, 2022.  It is strong argument
to persuade because the author focuses on the author includes the emotions endured by athletes in
order to persuade the reader to call action towards coaches.

4. Despite being a critical thinker, Robin Abcarian does not let his own views keep him from being
respectful of the opposition; this makes his approach more effective because he appears confident
and secure in his argument. While his use of the four appeals is not perfect, he excels at the values
and emotional appeals in particular by focusing on what is important to his audience.

Character appeals:

The author gives a strong statement by describing the actions and reactions in detail along with her
original facts and figures that proved the shared claim. For instance, she shared the actual victim
interviews in which they are confirming the fact of being abused and sexually harassed in term of
competition. The authors also shared the claims that are reported by other media person to gain tej
trust of audience.

Emotional appeals:

The author uses emotional appeal and wanted the audience to feel connected with the athletes by
arising the emotion of sympathy within the audience. The author wanted the audience to feel the
anxiety, fear, and disrespect which has been faced by the athlete. They are effective and appropriate
emotions because these emotions help the audience for instance, higher authorities or lawmakers to
take appropriate action.
Values Appeals:

What does the writer want his/her audience to believe is most important? Is the writer
successful in making the audience feel similarly?

The author becomes successful in arousing the emotions of anger for the coaches and sympathy for
the athletes. The author persuades the reader to feel a similar manner to resolving the problem faced
by the victims.

Facts and logic-based appeals:

Does the writer give enough facts, or is the argument more opinion based? How does affect the
persuasiveness of the argument?

The author shared interviews, actual statements to prove her point but incorporate her opinion
slightly along with that. She wanted to persuade the reader to give a call of action to for the crime.
