PRESENTE CONTINUO
Afirmativo, interrogativo y negativo
Pues bien. Una vez que tengamos claro el uso del presente continuo y sepamos emplearlo e
identificarlo, vamos a ver cómo se usa en sus tres formas: afirmativa, negativa e interrogativa.
Afirmativo (Affirmative)
Sujeto + am/are/is (verbo to be) + verbo acabado en –ing. Como podemos observar, aquí el
verbo auxiliar no recibe transformación alguna, ya que el que cambia es el verbo principal.
SINGULAR PLURAL
They are talking about what they will do for the holidays.
Están hablando de lo que harán en las vacaciones.
Negativo (Negative)
En las frases negativas, la fórmula que utilizamos es Sujeto + verbo auxiliar ‘to be’ + NOT +
Verbo + ING.
SINGULAR PLURAL
2ND PERSON You are not talking You are not talking
Por otro lado, si se trata del verbo to be, no se utiliza el verbo auxiliar, sino que se añade not al
verbo terminado en ‘-ing’. También utilizamos la forma contraída de is not (isn’t) y de are not
(aren’t).
Emma is not coming home this Christmas.
Emma no viene a casa esta Navidad.
Interrogativo (Interrogative)
SINGULAR PLURAL
Is he working on Saturdays?
¿Está trabajando los sábados?
