Learning Activity 1: The School as Learning Environment
Your Goal
At the end of this activity, you will be able to describe a school environment that provides social,
psychological, and physical support to learning.
Your Tasks
Do the following:
Step 1 Visit a school. Observe the facilities in the learning areas within
the campus
In my observations, I encountered many things which made me become more observant. While
observing, I also help myself to become or to look like a supervisor whose job is to document or to manage
in doing observation in the school in order to see or check what’s the progress of the school facilities such as
the classrooms, and the like. From that, I was able to familiarized and know some stuffs which will be
located in the different school facilities that we can find in the school campus. On the other hand, the way
that a classroom is arranged communicates very important messages to the children, how the classroom will
be utilized, how it is to function as a learning environment. Books and other interesting materials are neatly
displayed in such a way that allows children to use them frequently and correctly. Bulletin boards contain
children’s works and attractive pictures related to topics of study and in formations about class activities.
This will help children perceive that this classroom is a place for learning and fun, and their work is valued
because it is displayed to be shared with others. School life is a personal adventure to each child. A school
that is pleasant and provides comfort to all learners.
Conclusion
Therefore, I conclude that this observation help me to understand why classroom facilities are very
important and its function to the classroom. With that I able to understand how important facilities in the
classroom and school campus. Based on my findings, school facilities boost the quality of the learning
environment at the school. As a result, educational quality and facility has improved. Learners will able to
focus and concentrate more on their studies if the classroom layout is conducive for learning.
Accommodating huge numbers of children with different needs is very challenging without proper facilities
and resources. So that is why this facilities need to be found in every classroom and school campus to make
it functional.

2. How do they express their wants/needs? Can they wait?
3. Describe their level of confidence as shown in their behavior. Are they self-
conscious?
Cognitive
1. Describe how the pupils express their ideas. Can they communicate well?
2. How do they show their understanding of concepts? How do they show their
abilities in problem solving?
I noticed that students prefer to present in groups rather than individually throughout my
observations. I believe that role acting might be included in a group exercise to help students enhance their
skills. Peer engagement assists them in developing classroom processes and academic habits. Answering
their teachers' queries as well as presenting their own. They can express themselves by responding to
questions posed by their professors and creating their own. Lastly, students have a strong conceptual
foundation on which to reason and think critically.

Using the compassion matrix, record the data gathered about the learners’ characteristics and
needs. You will be able to compare their characteristics at different aspects. These are just sample
indicators. You may give additional aspects that may have been observed in the school’s context. You

Your Reflections
1. Reflect on your experiences when you were of their age. Discuss any similarities or differences of
such experience with those of what you observed.
2. I suppose there were many similarities between my experiences when I was their age and the
students I met during my observation class. Same as them, before I wanted to have more
collaboration with peers or within a group, I preferred to study where I could also learn from my
classmates or group mates to enhance learning through working together to solve problems, complete
tasks, or learn new concepts. Also, when I was in high school, I wanted to play badminton, and I tried
my hardest to engage in and experience what that sport was all about, as well as other extracurricular
activities that would help me on my journey. As far as I could remember, way back then, I was eager
to do the curricular activities in terms of academic excellence because I wanted to experience going
on stage and receiving any kind of award.
The behavioral child development theory, in my opinion, is the theory of development that
can help me explain my observations. This child development paradigm focuses on how
environmental interactions influence behavior. Obviously, it focuses more on observing students'
conduct based on their performances or activities in class and in classrooms, in my opinion. And this
idea differs significantly from other child development theories in that it does not take into account
interior thoughts or feelings. Instead, it is solely concerned with how experiences form who we are or
who they are as learners.

Many teachers are concerned with instructional methods, parental support, and
differentiated instruction when it comes to learning. The architecture of a classroom, on the other
hand, underpins a teacher's effectiveness. The layout of a class can influence how well students
learn in that class. Based on what I've seen in junior high school classrooms, the classroom area is
enough and favorable to learning. Actually, as I was about to enter the classroom, the first thing I
saw was the plain walls with no design, which was probably due to the fact that the building was
still new.
The screen or monitor above the white board, which teachers can use to offer PowerPoint
presentations, play movies for debate, or display photos, strikes me with its versatility in

supporting active learning and teaching. This facilitates both teaching and learning for teachers
and students. Another thing I noticed in the classroom was the air conditioning and strong
lighting, all of which are critical. Because of the use of white-colored tiles, the floor was very
spotless, making the room appear lovely and clean. The chairs were well organized, which was
beneficial to the pupils. I can only imagine placing charts, bulletin boards, or something else on
the walls to entice youngsters to participate. Overall, the classroom environment is safe, and all of
Misamis University's classes provide a fantastic learning environment and opportunity for
students.
During your observation of the classroom management, take note of important details. You
may ask the teacher to verify your observations.

Your Analysis
The core of classroom organization and routine is that when teachers efficiently organize a
classroom, children understand their roles and what the teachers expect of them. It also provides
students with a set daily schedule for the class, such as beginning the session with a warm-up period
and then shifting to lecturing, which helps them manage their learning better. Furthermore, in order to
encourage meaningful learning, the classroom should be effective and well ventilated. Whereas if the
classroom is favorable to learning and pleasant, it can also be one of their motivators to stay focused.
A teacher should also consider classroom organization and practices that are compatible with her or
his pupils' overall preferences. She or he should primarily include students in decision-making so that
they can learn to control themselves and their routines with the help of the instructor.
Cite certain theory that can support your answer. Share your insights with your classmates during the
class.
The theory of behaviorism is one hypothesis that can support my answer. This philosophy
promotes the use of rewards and penalties to induce desirable actions. Teachers who use this strategy
will have very clear rules for their students, as well as clear punishments and rewards. Anyone,
according to the belief, can be trained to be well-behaved. Teachers just need to teach pupils to
associate certain acts with bad consequences and others with good results. Students will gradually
learn to do more positive activities and less bad behaviors over time.
Your Reflections
1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level do you see
yourself in? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why?
When I envision myself organizing a classroom in the future, I picture myself in 9th grade or
a junior high school class. I selected ninth grade because I want to be a part of their journey before
they move on to the tenth grade. For example, I'd like to see how they've changed since they were in
high school. The routines and procedures that I should consider for this level are simply following the
rules and regulations in the classroom and being responsible for the tasks that must be completed
during class. It would be simple if I had to explain the classroom procedures and rules to my students
on the first day of class. They would recall and flawlessly follow the instructions until the very last

day of school. As teachers, we must first design activities such as getting to know one another
and psycho-social activities that will aid in the development of connections with peers. In addition, I
want to open my presentation with vibrant greetings and to solicit input from students. In addition,
before the new session, I will try to have pupils summarize the prior lesson. I will also create a
desirable environment by utilizing numerous teaching resources, so that they would find the subject
more important and intriguing.
Your Goal
At the end of this activity, the students are able to identify the lesson objectives, teaching activities,
instructional materials, and assessment tools used by the teacher in such activities.
Your Tasks
Now, work your way towards a closer look at the methods, strategies, and approaches of teaching and
learning, as well as the instructional materials and assessment tools used.
To attain the goal, perform these tasks.
For this visit, document your observations and the responses to the interviews you conducted by
using the form provided for you.
Observation Guide
OBSERVATION I
The objectives of the lesson are “Employ varied verbal and nonverbal strategies while
performing in a one-act play, produce the English sounds correctly and effectively when delivering
lines in a one-act play, compose forms of literary writing and identify types of features of a one-act
play.”
Learning activities with a section for questions and responses were more likely to be used.
While the teacher was having her conversation, she also asked students questions to answer, which is
most likely the approach by which the teacher and students may connect during the class discussion.
When there are questions about their understanding of the activity, learners raise their hands to
participate. They also contribute by sharing their thoughts and ideas with the other students.
4. What instructional materials were employed? Discuss whether such materials were computer-
generated or not. How did he/she prepare these materials?
The Power Point presentation, which is an example of computer-generated content, is being used
as teaching materials in the debate. Cartolina strips are also used as visual aids in her activities. She
used a colorful background, which is appealing and engaging to the pupils. And the text or type was
visible; it was nice, and I could tell she put a lot of time and work into creating her educational
materials.
5. How did the teacher assess the learning about the lesson? Is it the process or the product?
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Based on the learning process, the teacher assesses the lesson's learning. The teacher's
approach is based on internal development generated by acquiring new material and expanding one's
own understanding of how to use it. This point of view highlights the importance of learners actively
participating in their own learning process and creating meaning of the knowledge. Throughout the
session, the teacher emphasizes the need of student participation. She consistently asks questions so
that her students fully understand what she is teaching.
6. What reasons does the teacher give in having these learning activities?
The teacher's justification for carrying out this learning exercise is that it helps the teacher
achieve her objectives. Because there are a few students who are extremely shy in class, teachers
anticipate that their pupils' conduct will alter as a result of their learning. As a result, she highlighted
group-based collaborative activities. This transformation is fueled by knowledge, insights, interests,
abilities, and attitudes.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
1. What are the objectives of the lesson?
The objectives of the lesson are “Identify transition signals used in a sentence and paragraphs,
classify the types of transitional signals used in a sentence and construct sentences or paragraph using
transitional signals.”
According to the learning activities introduced, they will construct sentences employing transitional
signals, which will help students enhance their literary skills. It was more likely to be employed during
the question and answer phase of the learning exercises. While the teacher is talking, she asks her
students questions. Active learning is beneficial to both teachers and students.
Learners participate in the activities by answering the questions posed by the teacher during the
conversation. And when they have an idea, they share it with the class and offer it to everyone.
4. What instructional materials were employed? Discuss whether such materials were computer-
generated or not. How did she prepare these materials?
The only instructional material utilized in the conversation is a PowerPoint presentation, which is an
example of a computer-generated document. She selected a colorful background to encourage creativity
in active learning. It was good that the words and font were visible. I can say that she worked hard and
creatively to prepare her educational materials.
5. How did the teacher asses the learning about the lesson? Is it the process or the product?
The teacher evaluates the pupils' knowledge of the lesson during the learning process. This tactic or
strategy was employed by the teacher to encourage everyone to actively participate in the conversation.
As a result, learners may thoroughly comprehend the material and be able to respond to the questions
and exercises.
6. What reason does the teacher give in having these learning activities?
The teacher employs these learning activities to assist pupils in meeting their learning
objectives. Also, to combat the students' shyness, as there were a few who did not cooperate well
in class because of it. As a result, the instructor includes group or collaborative exercises in her
class.

Your Reflection
Express your feelings, ideas, and thoughts regarding your experience during the observation. Where
the materials used attractive enough to get the interest of the learners?
Teachers frequently use classroom observation to provide constructive critical feedback in order to
improve their classroom management and educational approaches. Based on the observations I had, I got to
know some techniques on how to manage the class and to deal with the students with different background
because we all know that students are diverse in nature. Classroom observation is a valuable tool for students
and practicing teachers to produce an emotional analysis, an evaluation of events, and an action plan. Aside
from that, I was always filled with excitement when I watched how hard the teacher worked to convey the
lessons in class effectively.
Teaching Araling Panlipunan taught me how to teach in a fresh and inventive manner. Based on my
observations, I learned certain tactics for managing the class and dealing with students from various
backgrounds, because we all know that students are diverse in nature.

Your Analysis
What is the basis of the teacher in choosing such instructional material in the lesson?
The instructor selects such instructional material for the class based on its accuracy and
visual appeal, alignment to standards and depth of knowledge, ease of use and support, engagement, and
ability to meet student requirements. These are the aspects that the instructor must consider while choosing
educational materials.
Do you observe any difficulty in the use of the instructional materials? How did she manage it?
Yes, everyone has difficulty using teaching materials, particularly in an online class. As a
result of our internet connection's low connectivity, we may experience technical difficulties. There were
several technical issues, such as internet access, signal, and power outages. Even if this occurs, she will
resolve the issue. She can still give the lessons effectively and comprehend the situation because everyone is
going through it, and everyone is expected to fix the problem.
Yes, the utilization of materials is effective because of the teachers' ability to be innovative,
which distinguishes them. They tried their hardest to make an effort with the tasks that needed to be

completed in order to meet the needs of the children. It is then effective since the learners learnt a lot
and can also handle their obligation to assist the teacher as much as possible when they are teaching.
How did the learners respond to the teacher’s use of the visual aids?
Visual aids are the most effective and efficient tool for teaching and knowledge distribution.
This will help kids build their "visual thinking," which is one of the learning strategies in which learners
associate and interpret ideas, words, and concepts with images, which is very useful for storing information.
When a teacher assigns a collaborative project, the students will be able to readily understand the content
because they can observe and read the visual aids, which will help them stay focused and motivated.
Your Reflection
Imagine yourself as the teacher. What would you do or not do if you were to teach the same subject
to the same group of students?
As a teacher, I will carry out my duties and fulfill my responsibilities by teaching students and
providing them with activities that will help them improve and equip them with knowledge and skills. And
another thing is that I willavoid favoritism in the classroom, where everyone is treated equally.

How did you find the task of surfing the net relevant in generating more information for your support
materials to the topic?
As we all know, surfing in the internet is useful and can assist us in gathering additional
information to support our resources on a specific issue that must be completed accurately, in
particular to our selected subject area. And there we can found out many articles that are somewhat
related and essential to the issue, which helped us support the ideas I learn from my class
observations. Surfing is important because it is highly convenient and can save us a lot of time. In
addition, we can acquire current news on the internet instantaneously, especially when it is relevant to
our course.
Insights
Imagine how schools located in communities without internet facilities cope with this need.

Access to the internet is fundamental to achieving this vision for the future. In connection
with that, schools can cope with this need in a way that the school can still offer to create projects or
activities for students. Teachers can save web pages to a USB flash drive for offline viewing.

The goal of these learning objectives is to teach students how to quickly determine whether
polynomials are algebraic expressions or not. And recognize the topic's relevance in the actual world.
An oral quiz was used to assess student understanding. It is a good assessment strategy to
immediately measure the learning of the students. It was also the teacher's method of identifying
students' various skills and abilities in order to indicate that they had met the learning objectives.
Target Competency.
To develop the student's creative thinking abilities.Because it enables the student to establish
required skills based on competency.
Interpret the data from the assessment tools used.
Students were able to participate in the oral quiz successfully. In fact, students' learning about the
topic was solidified by the exchange of ideas with their teacher.

In my own takeaway, I learned that all the activities and assessment should be in line with the
learning objectives. And every teacher must be concerned with the learning of each student, not just
completing the discussion.
Your Analysis
Do you think the teacher’s learning objectives were appropriately assessed by the test items?
Why? Why not?
Yes, the teacher’s learning objectives were appropriately assessed by the test items. In fact, the
teacher was resourceful in conducting the assessment. Most importantly, the critical thinking was harsh with
her type of assessment because if one student could not answer her question, she would ask another student
until the problem was solved.
Why did you have to study the teacher’s learning objectives prior to developing an assessment
tool?
Every student, like me, needs to study the teacher’s learning objectives because, with that, we will
know the rule and the importance of learning objectives in delivering the topic. And when making an
assessment, all our test questions should be aligned with the learning objectives.
Your Reflections

Reflect on your experience. How important is the alignment of objectives and assessment
tools used?
Based on what I have learned, the alignment of objectives and assessment tools used is very
significant. Likely, every question should be related to the objectives. The reason why it should be properly
aligned with the learning objectives is because it will be the teacher's way to identify if the student really
understands the topic. Through that, the teacher will also know the strengths and weaknesses of the students.
With that, a teacher can implement a new teaching technique that will help improve students’ understanding
and skills.

My Interview Notes
How was authentic assessment used? Was it used to measure learning through the product?
Explain.
My Interview Notes
In the classroom, all assessments must be used to guide and lead instruction. Authentic
assessments have several advantages over conventional tests. They are likely to be more valid for
learning outcomes that require higher-order thinking skills. And finally, it can provide more
specific and usable information about what students have succeeded in learning.

My Interview Notes
What are your insights and feelings about the use of authentic assessment?
Authentic assessment is used in line with the topic as a strategy of evaluating how learners
display or execute a certain task, based on what I observed with my critic teacher. Reporting, role-
playing, slogan creation, and other activities completed by students in the classroom are examples.
How did you feel about the teacher’s use of authentic assessment?
I believe that using authentic assessment is important and significant for teachers since it
allows students to perform and increase their productivity by completing certain activities set by
the teacher.
What could be the gains of the students and teachers in using the authentic assessment?
One of the knowledge advantages from employing authentic assessment is that students will
become more productive and creative with their output or performance, and the teacher will be
able to develop new things with his or her pupils as a result of using such an assessment.
What are part of the teacher’s practice of the authentic assessment do you feel like improving or
revising?
Authentic assessments are necessary to strengthen the learning outcomes of students, where
anyone can get a good score with the desired outcome. Teachers apply to evaluate student
development and adapt their instruction to meet the requirements of their students. As a result,
authentic assessment was effectively employed for instruction before, during, and after the
performance.

Your Analysis
From the response of the teachers, what conclusions can you draw about the characteristics that a
global teacher should have in terms of:
a. Knowledge?
According to the responses above, globally competent teachers are aware of global conditions and current
events. They are open-minded and responsible for the education of each learner, have an experiential understanding of
diverse cultures, and understand intercultural communication. To become a global teacher, a person should be
knowledgeable, skilled, competent, and have a modern outlook on life.
b. Skills?
The skills that characterize a globally competent teacher include creating a classroom environment that is
conducive to learning, valuing diversity, integrating global learning experiences into the curriculum, facilitating
intercultural conversations and partnerships, and assessing students' global competence development. A teacher should
be open minded, ready to accept new ideas, knowledgeable in a wide range of topics, well-read, and technologically
knowledgeable.
c. Values?
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
According to the data, the values of a global teacher include being knowledgeable, mindful of the
belongingness of the students on campus, and understanding the history, customs, and traditions of the country where
they live and teach. In reality, values are very important, especially when you work with other people.
Your Reflections
Reflect on the image of the global teacher. Make an easy about a global teacher and the
challenges that they may face in globalized world.
A global educator integrates multiculturalism, economics, the environment, and social issues into their
teaching. He broadens their perspective beyond the confines of their local classroom. Teachers' approaches
to education are evolving as the world gets more interconnected. Global education is currently being used not
only in classrooms but also on social media platforms.
It was difficult at first because I was adjusting to what to do and how to manage them, but as
time passed, it became easier. When I gradually gained their trust inside the classroom, I treated them as
if we were sisters and brothers. So that they will not be ashamed or hesitant to asked or addressed their
questions during discussion.
4. Insights/Reflection:
During my observations to the junior high school students, I found that they have difficulty
understanding their topics most especially in mathematics. However in some area or day they are
energetic and participative depending on how the teacher designs his or her approach. With this, I
realized that as teacher it is very important to consider the style of learning of our students. As what
Howard Gardner says that every learner is unique .Therefore, we need to have a classroom where the
differences of the learners are being catered.
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
During our online observation I didn’t have the opportunity to talk or assist the students
since we were just observing them. However, if I had the opportunity to handle them online, I would
handle them with extra patience because based on my observations, they are intelligent but lack of
focus and initiative to do their task.
4. Insights/Reflection:
During a week of online observation, I noticed a shift in the students' participation in
discussions. Because some students prefer face-to-face learning over online learning, while others
prefer online learning over face-to-face learning. Another thing I noticed about them was a lack of
reasoning ability. For example, if you ask them yes or no, they will say yes; however, if you ask them
why, they will automatically change their answers to no. I understand why the students were like that
because of the pandemic, but as educators we must do the scaffolding as what Vygotsky mentioned in
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
his theory in order for the students to understand and hopefully cope with the topics that they must
acquired in each grade level.
The difficulty that I faced this week was on what approach I am going to use for my first
teaching. It was my first time actually to teach face to face. Also, I didn’t have any idea where to start
because when I checked the lesson it was familiar to me but the methods and processes on how to
deliver the topic were different.
4. Insights/Reflection:
Observing another student teacher in delivering their lesson. I've noticed that the students
are also very observant and particular about how the student teachers present their topics. With that, I
investigate what approach they prefer, whether it is teacher-centered or learner-centered, individual
or group. So that, during my turn I can deliver my topic smoothly. Like what Jerome Bruner stated in
his theory, in order for the students to learn the topics, we need to involve them in the discussion and
let them do the task, because once they knew how to do it, they would be able to do it. It will be
registered in their minds forever.
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City

Despite my problems during my first teaching assignment, I managed them well. In fact,
several of them have asked me to tutor them, which I considered an accomplishment already. Also, it
was an indication that I was able to adequately present my topic to them.
Despite the difficulties, I was able to complete my first teaching assignment this week. Also,
being able to overcome my nerves during discussion, as this was my first ever face-to-face teaching
experience with actual high school students. That is why, when I was done lecturing, I really told
myself to thank God for everything.
4. Insights/Reflection:
Whatever happens, as educators, we have a deep bond with our learners. While observing
several students this week, I discovered that connectivism is a new learning theory that teaches
students how to combine concepts, theories, and general facts in a meaningful way. According to this
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
view, technology is an important aspect of the learning process and that every learner's constant
connectivity allows them to make choices about learning.
4. Insights/Reflection:
While observing several students this week, I discovered that the self-concept theory is a
good foundational knowledge on the importance of our perceptions towards our personal existence.
Like, each of us have different personality, traits, abilities and preferences that sometimes we cannot
understand what is really going on inside of us. While we may not be able to exactly explain why we
think this way, or why do we behave in that manner. The self is perhaps the most complex unit to
study in psychology.
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
The way I handled it was, instead of staying inside the library I stayed in our house to have
better internet connection and away from unnecessary noise.
3. The achievement/s I had this week was/ were:
I was able to finish my teaching early and leave my grade 9 students with a good vibe inside
the classroom. And being able to tell them that the subject mathematics is not the same with the other
subject that it is okay to sleep during discussion, with that move the students were slightly re think
the importance of listening very well and getting good scores.
4. Insights/Reflection:
This week I realized that being a teacher it is not about how good we are in delivering our
topic to our students but it is also educating our students to be responsible and have a goal to
accomplish. Just like Jean Piaget's theory of cognitive development wherein the child's cognitive
development is not just about acquiring knowledge, the child has to develop or construct a mental
model of the world.

This week's challenge was determining which method to take for my topic. Because I
wanted to employ a different style of teaching, but the students preferred the deductive method.
Despite the fact that I had to adjust my lesson plan fast, it taught me that when utilizing a style or
method of teaching, we must keep our learners in mind.
4. Insights/Reflection:
This week’s observation I learned that due to the pandemic and having an online class the
learning of the students are not the same as before. With this, I implemented the theory of Vygotsky
the Scaffolding theory because it is an educational approach that focuses on what kind of material a
student can learn. This is closely related to the concept of the "zone of proximal development," which
MISAMIS UNIVERSITY
Ozamiz City
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
proposes that students can learn some material on their own, and some material that is simply too
complex for them to learn. Scaffolding theory states that teachers should act as facilitators of
students' learning. This involves assessing where students are in their learning and offering assistance
as needed. Because teachers cannot always be present to provide answers, the student is left with his
or her knowledge in the end.

4. Insights/Reflection:
Throughout my journey in FS1, I realized that in order to be successful in the field of
teaching, we need to be observant of our learners, whether they are learning or not, or if they
successfully absorb the topic. And to be knowledgeable about our field of specialization, because it is
very important that, as teachers, we are the source of correct information and not the wrong one. As
future educators, it is vital to have a good relationship with our co-teachers. Finally, be prepared at all
times because it is our responsibility as practicing teachers to do what our critic teacher instructed us
to do.
