1. Foreword

The ACR-Nauticast Inland AIS is a device certified for both Inland and Maritime navigation. It is
connected to:
 A VHF antenna that allows the transponder to transmit information about your ship
(position, heading, name, travel information,...) and to receive the same information from
other ships in the neighbourhood.
 A GPS antenna that allows the transponder to get both the coordinates and and to
synchronized the transponder with the Universal Time included in the GPS signal.
 A PC, equipped with a navigation software (Tresco Inland ECDIS Viewer or Periskal Radar
Overlay) that can communicate with the transponder.

3. Functions
3.1. Keyboard
The Nauticast has a full alphanumeric keyboard, with the folowing functions:
 By pressing any key on the keyboard the letters are addressed,

 Number symbols and special characters are addressed by holding down the key and
simultaneously pressing the chosen key,

 The Num-Locked function can be activated by pressing simultanously the and the

 The characters ($, %, &, <,…) can be reached by holding down the Key and pressing
the chosen key.

3.2. Cursor Cross

These arrows allow the navigation within the current screen.
In addition to the actually displayed ENTER buton, the center of the cursor cross always has the Enter
functionality.

3.3. Softkeys
The Softkeys are divided into vertical static keys M1-M4 and horizontal dynamic keys M5-M8, which
differ in function according to the current application.
 M1: Filter option on AIS targets in graphical view
o FA (hides received Class A targets)
o FB (hides received Class B targets)

  M2: Diplay Mode. This Softkey allows toggling between the different Display Modes.
 M3: Safety Message. This Softkey allows direct Message Writing. Either broadcast or
addressed messages can be sent in this mode. Pending alarms could be accessed by this
Softkey.
 M4: Display Settings. Brightness and Contrast Regulator. This Softkey allows the Display
Settings to be changed between Daytime and Nighttime Modes.
 Menu: Go to Main Menu or return to the Navigation View Screen.

The Softkeys M5 to M8 are used in the different submenus. Their actions correspond to what is
written above them like in the next example:

 M5 : Send,
 M6, M7 : Channel choice (A ou B),
 M8 : Back.

3.4. Safety Keys

These Safety Keys have to be sent only in case of emergency. They allow the user to automatically
send urgent messages without the necessity of navigating the Menus:

 MOB: This button sends out precise position of an MOB incident to Addressed Vessels,
therefore allowing the message to a vessel closest to accident location.
 SRM: This button sends out emergency Broadcast Safety Related Messages to all ships in the
Vessel Listing.

4. Main Screens
4.1. Navigation Mode Screen

This screen provides the user with the Navigation Data from their own vessel and lists all other
vessels with receiving range. This screen automatically appears after a period of 60 seconds of user
inactivity on the Transponders.

4.2.2.1. Messages

This menu manages the Emission/Reception of the AIS Messages.

4.2.2.2. AIS Status

This menu allows the user to get the different status of the AIS transponder and the different alarms.

4.2.2.3. Voyage Settings (User Password Protected)

This menu corresponds to the Voyage Parameters of your Tresco Inland ECDIS Viewer or Periskal
Radar Overlay. If you want to modify some information concerning your trip (destination,
loaded/unloaded,…), this has to be done with your navigation software.

4.2.2.4. Ship Settings (User Password Protected)

This menu corresponds to the Ship Parameters menu of your Tresco Inland ECDIS Viewer or Periskal
Radar Overlay. These parameters can only be modified by the installer.

4.2.2.5. Transponder Configuration (User Password Protected)

This is a menu reserved for the installer.

 4.2.2.6. Service Configuration (Service Password Protected)

This is a menu reserved for the installer.

4.2.2.7. Display Settings

This menu allows changing the parameters for the luminosity and the contrast and choosing for
Day/Night colours.

4.2.2.8. Graphical Display Settings

This menu allows modifying the parameters related with the display of the AIS Targets in the
Graphical Mod : the scale, the symbols for the representation.
