Why is graphite soft and slippery?

Graphite is soft and slippery because it has weak forces of attraction

between layers. It is used as a lubricant and in pencils because it is soft
and slippery.

Why magnesium oxide has a high melting point?

Magnesium and oxygen form ions. The ions attract to form a lattice.
This gives magnesium oxide or high melting point as a lot of energy es
needed to break it apart.

Why diamond is hard?

Diamond is extremely hard because it is a giant covalent structure with
many strong covalent bonds.

Why does C60 does not conduct?

Because C60 has no unpaired electrons and does not conduct
electricity so it’s an insulator.

Why ionic compound conduct electricity?

Ionic compounds conduct electricity when is liquid like dissolve in water
because their ions are free to move from place to place.

Why silicon dioxide has a high melting point?

Silicon has a very high melting point due to its giant covalent structure;
a lot of energy is needed to break the strong covalent bonds throughout
the structure.

What is the formula of ammonia NH3. Ammonium NH4+.

Ionic compound?
When a metal element reacts with a non-metal element an ionic
compound is formed.
Covalent bonding?
A covalent bond forms when two non-metal atoms share a pair of
electrons.
