MKTMGT – 1107 Art Appreciation

Activity
1. How could you generally describe the works of art of Prehistoric Filipino people? How
about the Filipinos under the Spanish era? Contrast and compare.

Prehistoric Filipino art, as well as Filipino art throughout the Spanish era, were both
magnificent and beautiful. However, the art created by the prehistoric Filipinos is useful or
functional art. They used receptacles, which were containers designed to enclose and protect
the bodies of their deceased relatives. During this time, they also had the gold death mask,
which they used to cover the eyes, mouth, and nose of the deceased. While the art of the
Spanish era is more focused on religious paintings and the construction of churches because
they were the ones who introduced religion to the Philippines.

3. Compare and contrast the over-all theme of artworks produced during the American and
Post War period.

Beautiful styles and ideas were present in both the American and postwar periods.
In the American period, In Architecture, new materials such as concrete, steel, and
glass were used. The theme of the paintings was mostly on countryside scenes. The
design was modern during the postwar period. The architecture was hugely improved.
It also has a contemporary design in paintings.
