Name of Delegate: Siddhanth Tadepalli

Allocation: Moulvi Ahmadullah Shah

School: St Marys ICSE
Committee: Emergency Meet of 1857

The first shot fired by mangal Pandey represents the frustration of the Indian people on this
foreign British government. Time and time again, this government has shown us that they are
nothing but incompetent and lack a basic understanding of our heritage, culture, social norms
and history. This is displayed in various actions carried out by them

Political aggressions
The British are ruthless with their policy of expansion, they carry this out through various
means and methods :
• Wars and pure annexation: The British in the past have waged many wars on various
sovereign provinces and states of India. Notable mentions are
1. The battle of Buxar (1764)
2. Anglo-Mysore Wars(1767-1799):
3. Third Anglo-Maratha War(1817-1818):
4. Second Anglo-Sikh War(1849):

• Doctrine of Lapse: doctrine of lapse, in Indian history, formula devised by Lord

Dalhousie, governor-general of India (1848–56), to deal with questions of succession
to Hindu Indian states. It was a corollary to the doctrine of paramountcy, by which
Great Britain, as the ruling power of the Indian subcontinent, claimed the
superintendence of the subordinate Indian states and so also the regulation of their
succession.

• Subsidiary Alliances: Wellesley’s policy of subsidiary alliance was an extension of

ring fence—which sought to reduce states to a position of dependence on British
Government in India. According to this system, every ruler in India had to accept to
pay a subsidy to the British for the maintenance of British army. In return, British
would protect them from their enemies which gave British enormous expansion.

• Alleged Misrule: On 13 February 1856, Lord Dalhousie annexed Awadh to the

Company's territories. This was done under the pretext of alleged misrule by the
Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. However, this led to a lot of resentment among the ruling
elite of Awadh and the Indian sepoys working under the East India Company.

Economic Exploitation

Company official John Sullivan observed in the 1840s: "The little court disappears -
the capital decays - trade languishes - the capital decays - the people are impoverished
- the Englishman flourishes, and acts like a sponge, drawing up riches from the banks
of the Ganges, and squeezing them down upon the banks of the Thames". India that
the British East India Company conquered was no primitive or barren land, but the
glittering jewel of the medieval world. Its accomplishments and prosperity - "the
wealth created by vast and varied industries" - were succinctly described by a
Yorkshire-born American Unitarian minister, J. T. Sunderland. At the beginning of
eighteenth century, as the British economic historian Angus Maddison has
demonstrated, India's share of world economy was 23 per cent, as large as all of
Europe put together. By the time the British departed India, it had dropped to just over
3 per cent. The reason was simple: India was governed for the benefit of Britain.
Britain's rise for 200 years was financed by its depredation in India.

Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah has a very clear stance,

IMMEDIATE ARMED ORGANISED REVOLUTION. Nothing else is sufficient for the
crimes committed against the Indian people or the security of our interests over time. The
companies illegitimate annexation of Awadh angers me. It breaks my heart to see my
comrades be treated like strangers in their own state. The British have no idea how to rule my
beloved Awadh. It has never been clearer to me on how merciless the company is, they are
simple, naïve, selfish, greedy fools. They are incapable of compassion or empathy. I will not
allow them to rule any longer.

Mangal Pandey has become a powerful symbol in the eyes of the common man, we must use
it accordingly. I have learnt and studied the tactics of the British and I am open to
collaboration with anyone who shares my cause no matter their caste or creed. In the end I
must accept that we all must unite against this common enemy and fight like the brothers and
sisters we are against the company

It is, therefore, the only logical action to launch an armed revolution against this alien
government and show them the might of our nation united. For too long we have suffered, for
too long have we gone unnoticed. It is now that we will show the world what INDIA can do.

SOLUTIONS

• The delegate proposes a line of action similar to that of what America followed during
its revolution for independence.
• Over the course of committee it is imperative we finalise the finer details.
• The delegate feels we should look towards the disgruntled enemies of the british,
notably Portugal and France for assistance
• the unification of all Indian powers present within the presidencies established by the
British.
• IMMEDIATE armament of all willing to fight
o This can be done by encouraging infantry divisions to mobilise and revolt and
cease older versions of any sort of arms
• Targeting of major cities and military strongholds along with choking the british east
India company financially and politically with the help of controlling ports and
spreading propaganda respectively
