Motivation

Teacher will ask the students to write their

name on a paper and count the number of letters,
vowels and consonants.
Then, students will be ask to get the fraction
of the vowels and consonants on their name by
counting the total number of letters, vowels and
consonants.

Example: (Name of students)

GEOFFREY
Total number of letters - 8
Number of vowels - 3
Number of consonants - 5
So the fraction of vowels is 3/8
fraction of consonants is 5/8 - Fraction describe as a numbers with
numerator and denominator.
Lesson Proper - Parts of an object
Since we were able to get the fraction of vowels - Partitions
and consonants in our names, and based on our
activity how will you define fraction?

That’s right.
Fraction is a part of a whole. A number that
expresses equal parts of a whole object or a set
of an object.

PARTS OF FRACTION
Numerator – The number above the fraction bar
that represents how many parts of the whole are
being considered.

Denominator – The number below the fraction

bar that represents how many pieces or parts the
whole is divided into.

- The numerator is 1 and the

denominator is 2

Example
The figure shows a fraction ½.
Can you tell me what is the numerator and
denominator here?

Very good!
The circle is divided into 2 equal parts, one part
is shaded that represents the fraction pieces.
Let’s try another example. - 1/2 sir, the burger is divided into two

(Teacher will demonstrate fraction by using - 1/11, pizza is divided into 11 parts
some pictures and let students do it on their own)
(Students will raise their hands need to divide
the cupcake into two equal parts.)

Can you tell me what is the fraction on this

figure?

Great!
Now, I
have here
- ½ sir.
a cupcake and I want to
share it with teacher ________.
How will I divide it equally?

Very
good!
For
- YES Sir. (Student will divide the
sure
chocolate bar into 3.)
teacher ______ will be happy if I share this to
her. By the way what will be the fraction of my
cupcake after dividing it into two? - 1/3 sir.

Alright. I have a chocolate bar. Since you help - None

me in dividing my cupcake I will give it to you,
but you have to share it with three of your
classmate. Can you divide it equally?

Okay can you tell me what is the fraction of your

chocolate bar after dividing it into three?

- One half
- One third
- One fourth
Very good. Any question about fraction? - One fifth
- One sixth
Okay class for now I want you to give a hand to
my friend Jerry.

My friend Jerry bakes a pie. He slices the pie

equally into as many guests who will share it.
What fraction of pie will each guests in there
where,
2 guests
3 guests
4 guests
5 guests
6 guests

Application
“FUN FRACTION”
Teacher will divide the class into three groups.
Each group will be given a materials use in
making a model in one of their favorite foods.
Divide the model into equal parts corresponding
to the number of members and tell what fraction - (Students will comply)
each member will get. After that choose a leader
to report their work in front. (10 minutes)

Materials: Bond paper, colored paper, scissor,

glue, ruler and pen

RUBRICS
Creativity 5 points
Cooperation 5 points
Presentation 10 points - Equal shares or sizes
- Amount of quantity
Generalization
- Equal division
How do you describe fraction?
- Numerator and Denominator

What are the two parts of fraction?

Valuing
From the concepts you have learned today, how - The concept of fraction may use in
can you relate it to real life scenarios? everyday scenarios like eating foods
such as pizza, chocolate, burgers and
other foods.

Evaluation
Let us further test your understanding by solving
the following problems.

(Teacher will provide a worksheet for the

students to answer)

Assignment
