Within a 6o-minute given time, students are expected to:

A. Distinguish polynomials from other algebraic expressions;

B. Appreciate the practical applications of polynomials; and
C. solve problems involving polynomials.

III. Instructional Materials:

Online Worksheet, PPT Presentation, Laptop, White Board, Mark pen

IV. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
Before we start our lesson. Let us pray first.
(The students are praying)
Good afternoon, class!
Good afternoon, teacher.
How are you today?
We are fine, how about you teacher?
I am also fine, class.

Okay, let’s check your attendance.

(the teacher checks the attendance)

Very good! Everybody is present!

Before we proceed to our discussion, let’s have

first our class rules, okay

Are we clear about our rules?

Perfect! Yes, we are!

B. Recall
Can someone recall the last topic that was being
discussed?

Very good! Can you tell me what is Algebraic It is all about Algebraic Expression teacher!

An algebraic expression is a compact way of
describing mathematical objects using a

An algebraic expression consists of terms, variable,

Class, do you want to play a game? Yes, teacher!

Okay! Do you know this game called “Scrambled Yes, teacher!

Words”?

Perfect! Right now, I want you to list down all the

word can be form in a scrambled letter as many as
you can. Write down your answer in the comment
section.
The mechanics of the games is very simple.
Let’s all read the mechanics of the game.
Yes, teacher!
Are you ready?

Let’s begin!

How was the activity? Did you find it fun? Yes, we are!

Excellent! (The students are typing their answer.)

Wow! How many words did you found? Kindly

write down it in the comment section. (Answers are varied)

Excellent!

ENGAGE
The game that we played earlier is connected to
our topic for today. Are you ready to know what it Yes, teacher!
is?
Any idea, class? Polynomials

Okay, our topic is all about Polynomials and its

operations.

Okay class, I will provide a link for another activity.

I want you to participate.
Is that clear? Yes, teacher!

I will be calling someone in our class to choose a

number and then he/she encourage to answer the
given question in a number he/ she has chosen.

Are we good? Yes, teacher!

Great!
EXPLORE

There are (3) three kinds of fractions.

Jeneva: Proper Fractions, Improper Fractions and
Can you please name the three kinds of Fractions, Mixed Fractions, teacher.
Jeneva?

Wow! Excellent Jeneva.

For now, how about the examples of Proper and

Improper Fractions?
Jesseca do you have any idea? Jesseca: 2/8 is a Proper Fractions and 5/2 is an
Improper Fractions, teacher.
Very Good , Jesseca!

To recall, when we say Proper fraction the

numerator is less than the denominator. Improper
fractions is when numerator is greater than or
equal to the denominator . Mixed Fraction is a sum
of a natural number and a proper fractions.

Are we good , class? Yes! Teacher.

Very Good, Class!

Okay class, let’s have an activity called “Know My

Type”. In this activity, all you need to do is to write
the fractions to its corresponding types in a box.

Are we clear, class? Definitely, yes! teacher.

Wow! That’s good.

Here is the Activity Card, class.

Classify the following as proper fractions, improper

fractions or unit fractions.

8/12, 10/27, 17/12, 2/5, 5 1/13, 5/12, 6/15, 2 1/2,

31/12, 27/4

EXPLAIN

Okay class, you already know how to identify the

Okay, teacher!
corresponding types of fractions. For futher
discussion, I will provide pdf for you to read on
how to convert improper fraction into mixed
fractions or vice versa.

city/Domain/1473/Three_Types_of_Fractions_Not (Pupils starting to read the pdf file.)
es.pdf

Class, I will show you the steps on how to convert

improper fractions into mixed fraction

1. Divide the numerator by the denominator

2. Write down the whole number result
3. Use the remainder as the new
numerator over the denominator. This is
the fraction part of the mixed number.

Example: Convert the improper fraction

16/3 to a mixed number.

1. Divide 16 by 3: 16 ÷ 3 = 5 with remainder (Students are listening.)

of 1
2. The whole number result is 5
3. The remainder is 1. With 1 as the
numerator and 3 as the denominator, the
fraction part of the mixed number is 1/3.
4. The mixed number is 5 1/3.

So 16/3 = 5 1/3.

You want to know how to convert a fraction from

mixed to improper fractions, class?
Class: Yes, teacher.

Okay, for the steps in converting mixed to

improper fractions we have:

Follow these 3 steps to convert a mixed number to

an improper fraction:
1. Multiply the whole number by the
denominator
2. Add the answer from Step 1 to the
numerator
3. Write answer from Step 2 over the
denominator
A mixed number is a whole number plus a
fractional part. An improper fraction is a fraction
where the numerator (top number) is larger than
the denominator (bottom number). You can
convert between mixed numbers and improper
fractions without changing the value of the figure.

Example: Convert the following mixed number to

an improper fraction.
3 5/9.
Step 1: Multiply the denominator (the bottom
number in the fraction) and the whole number
9 × 3 = 27
Step 2: Add the answer from Step 1 to the
numerator (the top number in the fraction) (Students are listening.)
27 + 5 = 32
Step 3: Write answer from Step 2 over the
denominator 32/9 is the answer.

Did you understand the discussion, class?

Any questions regarding to our discussion, class? Absolutely, yes! Teacher.

Nothing, teacher.
Now, since you already know how to convert
improper fractions into mixed fractions. Let’s have
an exercise regarding in our discussion class.

Are we good?

Try to convert the following from mixed to Yes, teacher!

improper fractions:
1. 3 4/10
2. 2 2/4 (Pupils start answering.)

1. 3 4/10
SOLUTION:
3 4/10 = (10 X 3) + 4 / 10
= 34/10
= 17/5 (ANSWER)

2. 2 2/4
SOLUTION:
2 2/4 = (4 X 2) + 2 / 4
= 10/4
= 5/2 (ANSWER)

(Answer should be like this.)

ELABORATE

Let’s have group activity, class. I will group you into

3 members each group. I will provide worksheet
for you to answer.

Are we excited?
Exactly, teacher.
Wow, that’s great!
