Organization and Team Expectations

This paper will set the foundation for our team project for this course. We will decide on

a Community Organization to research as a group. In addition we will define the

parameters of how our team will work together to complete the project.

Our Organizations

Our organizations were suggested by each individual, then chosen as a group.

They are a reflection of our interests or represent issues that have touched us in some

way. We feel that each of these organizations will present an interesting opportunity for

further research.

American Cancer Society

The first organization we would like to suggest is the American Cancer Society.

This non-profit not only helps fund research, but also helps the individual fighting cancer

by providing support services. The American Cancer Society would be an interesting

subject to delve into as most people have known someone who has fought the disease or

have had it themselves.

United Services Organization

Another possible organization for review is the USO (United Services

Organization). As one of the largest and oldest nonprofit military support organizations,

the USO provides a unique opportunity to examine how a large scale organization

operates. It also operates in a complex environment with plenty of competition for

donations that are meant to benefit the same population. The organization operates

internationally, has a Congressional delegation, and is one of the United States’ largest
OGL 355 Team Project Module 1 3

nonprofits based on its financials. With Veteran’s Day approaching, a better

understanding of a military focused community organization would be appropriate.

RAINN

Our third community organization proposal is RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest

National Network). Headquartered in the District of Columbia, RAINN is “the nation's

largest anti-sexual violence organization” (About RAINN); their services include the

National Sexual Assault Hotline, the DoD Safe helpline, and connecting victims with

sexual assault service providers in their area. Sexual assault affects millions of Americans

and has recently came to the fore front of public consciousness. We want to study this

organization because they operate a number of different programs making them the

authority in their field.

Team Expectations and Project Plan

The team will deliver all work products required in this course by creating and

adhering to a team working agreement and project plan. The team will distribute work on

a voluntary, first come basis. Each team member will contribute, at minimum, a proof

reading of each module’s deliverable plus any additional responsibility they may have

volunteered for. In the sections below, the team will outline their communication plan,

commitments to each other, and what work each person has taken ownership of.

Communication Method(s)

The team will communicate through email and the use of Google Hangouts. All

messages will be responded to in a timely manner so as not to hold the team back from

making progress on the assignment.

Frances Parra fparra4@asu.edu

Collaboration Method(s)

Team will collaborate through the use of Google Drive, Google Hangouts and

Zoom meetings as necessary.

Conflict Management

The team’s expectation is that all communication takes place in a channel that

includes all team members, either through Canvas messages, Hangouts, Zoom, or the

shared documents in Drive. Any conflicts or concerns should be raised in one of these

channels to be addressed by the team as a whole. Only in the event that the team reaches

an impasse should Dr. B be involved in the situation. Individual concerns over quality of

content or lack of participation, outside of missing a deliverable, will be addressed via the

provided peer review opportunities.

Consequences of Non-Participation

Participation, at a minimum, should include peer reviews with feedback prior to

submission. Each team member is expected to contribute every week on each assignment.

This document includes commitments by each team member regarding their contributions

for each assignment. Failure to fulfill these commitments warrants a deduction of 20

points for that given week. Concerns with quality or timeliness of efforts will be

addressed via the peer review process.

subsequent modules. The team has identified Jessica as the lead for the next module. She

will develop and deliver a significant portion of the analysis. Taylor has taken

responsibility for the second portion of the analysis. Frances and remaining team

members have committed to providing support in the form of peer review prior to

submission. We will follow a similar format for the remaining modules. Responsibilities

and timelines have been clearly documented above.
