Module 1 Team Assignment 2

Module 1 Team Assignment

In this paper we will be discussing the route we want to take for this team project

and discussing the structure of our team. As a team we have researched and discussed

organizations that we feel are the most important to us as a group. After our discussions

and findings, we have chosen to introduce the organizations, their mission, and why we

have selected the three specific organizations for our strategic case study. Furthermore,

we will layout our expectations of each other and outline deliverables, responsibilities,

and acknowledge the due dates.

Our Organizations

It was difficult to decide which nonprofit organizations to submit for

consideration because there are so many worthy organizations to study. We decided to

list TED first because it is well known, large, and unites the team under the educational

front. We chose to list Planned Parenthood last because it can be very divisive and

controversial. We had no issues coming up with a litany of organizations, but only

struggled to narrow them down to our top three.

TED

TED is an organization that seeks to deepen peoples understanding of the world.

They organize and build a multitude of free knowledge available to everyone over a

massive variety of topics. They are mostly known for their “TED Talks” where a

professional gives a speech on a subject they are knowledgeable on. We want to study

this organization because it is an inspiring cause. We are all here to further our education,
Module 1 Team Assignment 3

and TED is a nonprofit focused on giving education to the world for free. It is also large

enough so that we will not run out of data or information to write and learn about.

International Committee of the Red Cross

The International Committee of the Red Cross has been around since 1863 and is

the largest humanitarian network in the world. They are dedicated to helping people

across the globe who have been affected by armed conflicts. We would like to study this

organization because they have a very well-known name, but not many people

understand the extent of what they do. They are a large, global, organization that has

helped millions of people and they have plenty of inspiring stories to read and write

about. This organization has been around for a long time and has a presence around the

world, so we will not have issues finding the information we need.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America

Planned Parenthood was created in 1916 and is dedicated to educating women and

getting them free resources and care to live healthy lives. They currently have over 600

health centers across the country. We are interested in studying this organization because

there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding this organization. Many people mistakenly

believe that this is an abortion clinic, but it offers many more resources to women like

cancer screenings and necessary medicine. This is a large organization that has done a lot

to help women in this country and there is a wealth of knowledge to be learned and

disseminated.

Team Expectations and Project Plan

Communication Method(s)
Module 1 Team Assignment 4

We will be using google hangouts for any group meetings – though these may be

challenging at times due to everyone’s schedules. We will use email to communicate to

the entire team. This allows us to have a rolling log of everything everyone has said and

what they have contributed.

Collaboration Method(s)

We will be using google docs to edit documents. This allows multiple team

members to work on the project simultaneously, and also allows the team to see how

much of the assignment has been completed at any given time.

Conflict Management

The first approach to conflict management will be having the team lead reach out

to the team member with the issue to try to negotiate and resolve whatever issue is at

hand. Also, any team member can reach out to the team lead at any point to voice any

issues they are having or experiencing with the course. If it is found that a resolution

cannot be made, the team lead will reach out to the professor for further guidance.

Consequences of Non-Participation

If a team member is not contributing, responding, or communicating with the

team in a helpful manner, they will receive 50% of the grade that the team earns on the

assignment in which they did not contribute. This does not include missing meetings –

we all understand that we live in different time zones and have full time jobs, children,

and other obligations at different times of the day. Email, telecommunication, or chat is

an acceptable form of communication. If a team member fails to deliver the product,

deliverable, or task that they were asked to do in that assignment (and no previous plan

had been made) they will receive 50% of whatever grade is assigned to the team.

Conclusion

In this paper we have shared three organizations that are important and of interest

to us as we move forward to the development of our mini-strategic case study. We have

also discussed what is expected of the team in terms of communication and collaboration.

We have broken down what roles and responsibilities individuals will have as we move

through the weeks and assignments in the remaining modules. Furthermore, we have

stated how we will handle conflict management and consequences of non-participation.

As students we continue to further our education not only in the academic world but also

as professionals. We are committed to the success of the team by supporting one another

throughout this learning process.
