Dengue

Dengue viruses are spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes
species mosquito. Almost half of the world's population, about 4 billion people,
live in areas with a risk of dengue. Dengue is often a leading cause of illness in
areas with risk.

Warning Signs

 Clinical fluid accumulation.
 Mucosal bleed.
 Lethargy or restlessness.
 Liver enlargement > 2 cm.

Symptoms can start anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks after being bitten by an
infected mosquito, and typically last for 2 to 7 days. Dengue begins abruptly
after a typical incubation period of 5–7 days, and the course follows 3 phases:
febrile, critical, and convalescent. Each year, an estimated 400 million people
are infected with dengue virus through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
