REFLECTIONS

As someone who belongs to the baby boomer generation, I am not that much tech
savvy. I am accustomed to using pen, paper and face-to-face meetings to teach. The
pandemic changed all forms of meetings, reports and presentations digitally. Due to
this, it is then essential to know the basics of how to use computers and applications.
Creating reports through Microsoft Word, organizing student records and calculating
grades through Microsoft Excel and making demos, illustrations and presentations
through Microsoft Powerpoint are some of the examples where these applications come
in handy.

The core subject of our in service training highlighted the features and uses of
powerpoint presentations. This allows us teach lessons in creative ways. This is also
efficient as it can be done in a shorter period of time compared to printing and cutting
out pictures and shapes for visual aids. Short clips and videos can also be included
which gives far more illustrative examples and engage learners to be more attentive and
to absorb the information better. Different fonts, themes and transitions allow us to
customize lessons to make them relatable to the specific age group targeted.

However, powerpoint presentations are not only limited to employ creativity in a

classroom setup but can also be applied to help in coaching and mentoring fellow
teachers. It's easier to understand concepts when paired with illustrations and examples
that can be integrated into the powerpoint. This is actually now the main tool that is
used in web meetings to disseminate information and for trainings.

Hence, teachers need to help each other to succeed in adapting in today's learning
environment. Coaching those who are not yet proficient, like me so we can acquire the
skills necessary to teach our pupils. Through the trainings I received, I realized that our
roles as educators encompasses imparting our knowledge through the learning
materials distributed to us but also to learn new ways on how we can impart these to
everyone. This way, our children, and our children's children will flourish and still adapt
to this developing world equipped and ready.
