Class Expectations
❖ Class participation is always expected
❖ Students must turn in their daily assignments on time
❖ Besides the in-class review, students must study for their tests at home
❖ Passing grade on daily assignments and assessments is a 70% or above
❖ In 5th grade, students will prepare for the Science STAAR test

Math
Class Expectations
❖ Students must show their work on assessments and daily
assignments.
❖ Students must pass assessments and daily assignments with a
minimum of 70%.
❖ Students must participate in class.
❖ Students need to complete their Math Fluency and Math Homework
daily. This will help close academic gaps and prepare students for
STAAR.
❖ Imagine Math: students must pass with at least a 70% on their
lessons.
❖ Notes and videos are in Google classroom for students to access
from home.

Homework
❖ Math fluency is to be done for homework every day and must be
signed by parent.
❖ Homework sheet must be completed two days out of the week.
❖ Imagine Math lessons are completed at home and during class.
Imagine Math
❖ Students are required to pass at least 2 lessons EVERY week (in
class & at home).
❖ These are individualized lessons that come from pathways
provided based on their MAP test scores.
❖ Imagine Math can be accessed through their clever accounts
from anywhere, so they can work from home.
❖ Incentives are provided to students who meet their IM goals
every 6 weeks.

Class Expectations
❖ Students must come to school with their backpacks, completed homework, fluency
packet, and charged computers
❖ Class participation during the lesson is crucial for long-term retention
❖ Passing grade is a 70% or above
❖ Homework must be completed daily, to the best of the student’s ability and with
parental support; it is checked in class for completion and parent signatures
❖ AR goals should be met weekly

Instruction

❖ Reading fluency: students practice oral reading fluency daily with their teacher
❖ Spelling: skills are explicitly taught and words introduced by teacher; students have
weekly spelling assessment
❖ Reading skills: taught using Amplify Texas, I-Ready, and STAAR Master
❖ Revising/editing: practiced using Writing Fast Focus
❖ Writing process: explicitly taught and modeled by teachers during class; writing
samples collected by the school for data use

Homework

❖ Reading fluency (timed) should be practiced at home, parents must sign the log
❖ Spelling practice should be practiced when assigned
❖ Revising and editing homework must be completed at home with parent support
❖ Amplify Digital: students must do 30 minutes per week

Expectations
❖ Students are encouraged to meet their six weeks goal
➢ 3rd grade six weeks goal: 18 points (3 per week)
➢ 4th grade six weeks goal: 24 points (4 per week)
➢ 5th grade six weeks goal: 24 points (4 per week)
❖ Students must read AR books on their own time, (during breaks at school
and at home) then quiz on the AR program
❖ Book levels: students are allowed to test on books at their grade level
and the grade level below; students in special programs do not have
book level restrictions
❖ AR quizzes can be taken at school only (during school hours)
❖ Students that meet their six weeks goal are recognized during awards
ceremonies. Rewards include: ribbons, a pizza coupons, incentives

STAAR Redesign:
This year, the STAAR test will consist of no more than 75% multiple choice questions.
This means that the other 25% of the test will include different ways of answering
questions such as: filling in the blank, highlighting, selecting more than one answer,
typing in their short answer, plotting points on a graph, drag and drop, and even
writing an essay based on what they read.
