5th Grade website :excelsiorlionsgohigh.weebly.com

This week, we are continuing to prepare for End Of Grade testing. We are also wrapping up
percentages and moving on to the study of rate. In the coming week, ask your student how they can
define both of these term as well as when and how they are used!

As we continuing with the Little Women, we are now reading one chapter in class, and one
chapter is assigned to read at home. With this increased speed, we should be able to finish our
Little Women and sqeeze in one more literary study before the end of the year. Students are
writing summaries for each chapter and answering the level 3 (synthesizing) questions that
follow each set of 2 chapters- folders will be checked and graded every Friday.

Last week, students turned in their final projects on Westward Expansion After the Civil War-
these diaries were amazing! Students had to not only synthesize all of the historical information that
we learned in class, but meld that information with a first-person diary that spanned the time
period. Student grades will go home today and tomorrow. Diaries will be returned home after the
classes have gotten to share their diaries, ask questions of, and heap praise on their fellow students!

We are wrapping up our study of forces and motion and reviewing NC Science Standards that
will also be present on the EOG.

* Please see the homework calendar on the website for this weeks details.
* Students should be working for no longer than 40 minutes per subject, per night. If you or your student
reaches a frustration point OR you are unclear of what needs to be done for the work, please send us an email
so that we can help your student first thing the next morning.
* Homework is only excused with a parent note.
