5th Grade website :excelsiorlionsgohigh.weebly.com

This week, we are continuing to prepare for End Of Grade testing. We are also focusing on
calculating percentages of quantities beyond 100. Ask your student how they might find the amount
to tip to leave at a restaurant or for various services.

We continuing with the Civil War era classic, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott! Next week
we will move to a one chapter read in class, one chapter read at home model to get through 2
chapters vs 1 chapter per day. Students are writing summaries for each chapter and answering the
level 3 (synthesizing) questions that follow each set of 2 chapters.

Students are furiously writing their diaries for Westward Expanision After the Civil War. Ask your
student to share the diary of their fictional character and explain how their history notes are
incorporated into their diaries! Students are working hard to make sure that their historical fiction
accounts are accurately aligned with what they have learned.

We are continuing our study of force and motion this week. Ask your student about the forces
that affect the motion of an object in space.

* Please see the homework calendar on the website for this weeks details.
* Students should be working for no longer than 40 minutes per subject, per night. If you or your student
reaches a frustration point OR you are unclear of what needs to be done for the work, please send us an email
so that we can help your student first thing the next morning.
* Homework is only excused with a parent note.
