PARAGRAPH WRITING

A. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to enable students to compose good and effective paragraphs in
English. Furthermore, the students also expect to create different types of pararaphs.
The discussion is started by introducing the nature of paragraph and its elements.
Beside the elements of paragraph, the students are also showed the requirement of a
good paragraph. In the other hand, the students are able to identify effective paragraph.
For instance, unity and coherence. In composing good and effective paragraphs, the
students should take not of the order in paragraph. They are spatial order, chronological
order, and question to answer order. In addition, the students also should create types
of paragraphs. The types of paragraphs are descriptive, comparison, cause-effect and
classification paragraph. They learn the principles of paragraph writing through
collaborative learning techniques, the use of digital media and practice writing
paragraphs as class and home assignments. To help the language development, the use
of authentic text is preferred with strict limitation on the use of simplified text. The
students’ achievement is assessed by means of their class attendance, activity,
portfolio, mid-semester test, and semester exam.

2. Goal
At the end of the course, it is expected that students are able to compose good and
effective paragraphs. They can identify the element of paragraph. Moreover, the
students can implement the order of logic in paragraph. At last, the students can
create types of paragraphs.

3. Description of Contents
The content of this course includes the learning outcomes create paragraph writing
such as the nature of paragraph, elements of paragraph, order of paragraph, and
types of paragraphs. In addition, classroom discussion in-group is used as the
opinion sharing for the problem solving the students encounter in their writing.

Technique : Collaborative Learning Techniques
Media : PPT, Digital Media {Web Based, etc}

5. Evaluation
Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
a. Class Participation/Assignments : 20%
b. Mid-term Exam : 30%
c. Final Exam : 50%
d. Students whose attendance are below 80% are not entitled to a grade.
