Not an antagonist of oxytocin
Dr. Zak

1. read it
2. brief resume in my own words
3. the authors tested this…. they go throw this experiment….
4. not good job –> they try too

This manuscript is a one session… psychopharmacological study…. healthy young

men… low dose of the opioid agonist…. the study is single-blind and fixed drug order…
explain the experiment

5. Conclude statement-bridge:
The short letter format unfortunately renders the manuscript almost unintelligible,
with numerous necessary references missing, and almost none of the necessary
methods and result information
For a good paper: the manuscript is extremely well written, presenting novel findings
likely to inform the research field. the following recommendations might improve the
published paper.

6. Major comments
 Fixed order of the design
 Single blind
 Ratings
 The title gives readers the impression that remifentanil altered participants
affective state, yet the outcome measure is the pleasantness of film clips
 Write the good things

7. Minor comments
The unusual notation of kg-1 should be changed to /kg

Although I am not an expert in this… I would like to ask some questions

standardized sample/effect size when the paper can´t be explained in words:

variability

Checklist for study design:

 Number of participants (N): index of power –> increases the power
o Effect size of interest, alpha
o N of measurement: data, meeting assumptions
 More relievable –> less participants are necessary
 Correction for multiple comparison
 The number of repeats is going to help
 Generalizability
 Rationale
 Hypothesis-driven or exploratory
o Clearly stated
 Controlling for alternative explanations
 Construct validity
 Citing of relevant findings
 Avoiding bias
o Double blind randomized placebo control treatment study
o Counter balancing
o preregistration
o Conflict of interest
o Stats by blinded personnel

o Understanding the analyses
o Understanding the outcomes of the analyses
