Introduction

Technologies have evolved and innovated in recent years, making people's life easier.

Most individuals nowadays can't imagine going through their day without using technology for

communication, entertainment, business presentations, or speedier transportation.

Security was one of the most essential aspects of people's concerns today, and the

majority of security devices were created using technology such as CCTV cameras, alarm

systems, and motion detectors. Due to poverty, the Philippines was one of the Asian countries

with the highest number of theft events and crimes (Sison, 2008).

It frequently happened when the owners were sleeping, on vacation, or otherwise

unavailable. As a result, the researchers will attempt to build and create a solar-powered anti-

burglar gadget that employs a motion detector as a security device. A motion detector detects

moving things, especially people. It is a gadget that is frequently integrated as part of a system

and performs a task or notifies a user to motion in a specific region ( Dimaculangan, 2015).

The Pyroelectric Infrared Sensor (PIR) is the most extensively utilized sensor for low-

cost surveillance. PIR sensors are popular in security because of its high end sensitivity and

detecting area. Human and animal detection was excellent using PIR sensors. They were largely

used to activate household appliances and trigger an intruder alarm when a human was present.

(Pawar, Nandre, et. al, 2018).

There are various power plants in the Philippines that use renewable energy sources such

as hydroelectric, wind, steam/geothermal, nuclear, and biogas. This is a tropical country,

therefore there is plenty of heat and sunlight. Solar energy is a well-known alternative energy

source that can be utilized to replace electricity.

Solar energy coming from the sun is converted into heat or electrical energy. It is one of

the cleanest and most abundant sources of energy available. Solar energy can be collected using

photovoltaic panels housed in solar panels, photovoltaics convert light into electricity and at the

atomic level using materials that exhibit a particular characteristic. is called the photoelectric

effect. Photoelectric effect absorb photons of light and release electrons, when the free electrons

were captured, it will result into electric current that can be used as electricity. (Cosico, 2015).

Solar energy could be stored in battery and used for a certain amount of time depending

on the capacity of the battery and the equipment used. In addition, people use solar panels in

different ways like using it as an alternative source of electricity, and security devices which

really help the people on saving their electric bill.

Hence, this study will aim to design and develop a solar powered anti-burglar device that

uses a motion detector which could help the people for their security as well as policemen to

resolve crimes related to theft or burglary.

Review of Related Literature

In the study of Riyanto, Margatama (et. al 2018), Ranjan, Kumar (et. al May 2016),

Dimaculangan Jr., Canta1, Cosico1, Viterbo1 (et.al September 2015) the related studies focus

mainly on using motion detector as a medium to save electricity bill. They put motion detector

to their inventions which aims to save and produce electricity by means of sensing the motion

and transmit the signal to the Programmable Interface Controller (PIC) micro-controller to turn

on the light that is powered by solar panel. On the other hand, the study of Gan Boon Boon

(2010-2011) is different from other related studies because it uses infrared sensor to detect

motion. Lastly, the study of (Pawar, Nandre et. al 2018) mainly focus on how PIR Motion

detector works, what factors that may affect its response and the different kinds of motion

detector which help the researchers to sought ideas on working the device and understand fully

the usage of motion detector. The related studies is different also from the present study which

will only focus on using motion detector as a medium to create an anti burglar device.

On the other hand, based on the results of the study of Furukawa, (January 2013) Solar

lamps are seen as some of the most robust alternative energy sources for bringing modern

lighting to developing countries and thereby improving the educational environment, health, and

safety of rural households. However, this study will show that benefits of solar lamps are mixed:

while health and safety show evidence of improvement. While the study of Morgan (2008)

tackles and discuss the parts of solar panel, the ways on how will more the solar panel can absorb

light and the different designs of solar panels. The study of Liu (et. al 2011) focuses on their

invention that is directed to an apparatus that satisfies the need for mounting equipment on metal

roofs and other roof structures, including the mounting of Solar photo Voltaic panel structures,

that simplifies installation, reduces cost, complexity and the possibility of water leakage from the

mounting apparatus. The present is study is similar to the related studies by means of using solar

panel while it differs because the present study will only use solar panel to support and enable

the device to work, unlike the study of Furukawa (January 2013), Morgan (2008) and Liu (et. al

2011) that uses solar panel in bigger purposes and larger appliances.

In the study of Njemanze, Kothari (et. al 2008) discussed network security devices. For

example, any meta-events that are generated may be reported by generating alerts for display at

one or more computer consoles, or by sending an e-mail message, a pager message, a telephone

message, and/or a facsimile message to an operator or other individual. On the other hand, the

study of Hsu, Wen-Hua (2007) which tackles about the formation of a tamper Switch installation

in a wall or Surface mounted keypad, which is highly efficient and reliable in operation while

also concurrently being cost effective mounted, resides in the provision therein of a resilient

rubber tamper switch, which possesses an electrically conductive end Surface contacting a

printed circuit board forming part of the operative system located within the keypad housing.

Lastly, the study of Antur, Sanjay (et. al 2001) focuses methods and apparatus for configuring

and managing firewalls. Thus, the present study is similar in purpose which is to develop an anti-

burglar device, while it differs in terms of where and how it will be used.

Statement of the Problem:

1. How far the device will detect the motion?

2. How fast the buzzer will react to different kinds of motion?

Objectives of the study

The main objective of this study is to design and develop a solar powered anti-burglar

device through the use of PIR Motion detector.

Specifically, this study aims to:

1. Measure how far the device will detect the motion.

1.1- 2 meters

1.2- 4 meters

2. Test the device in terms of:

2.1- determine the response rate of the buzzer on fast and slow moving object.

2.2- determine the duration of response of the buzzer on fast and slow moving object.

Significance of the study

Anti-burglar device is more than what it is, it will be one of the things that will help not

only people for their safety but also with other fields. This research will create a fundamental

importance on the following subjects:

Community. This study will help the community for their security to prevent crimes.

Future Researchers. This research will serve as the foundation for their physical science

research and will provide evidence to make their research more viable and dependable.

Government. The government will be able to report a lower number of offenses as a

result of this study.

PNP. This study will help the Philippine National Police (PNP) to detect some crimes

and it will be easier for them to secure safety for the people.

Methodology

A quantitative method will be used in this study as the research design in order to

quantify the problem by generating numerical data that can be transformed into a usable

information (De franzo, 2011). One of these methods is experimental design which conducted

with a scientific approach, where a set of variables are kept constant while the other set of

variables or the dependent variables are being measured as the subject of experiment. (Adi Bhat,

2010). Specifically, this type of research design will be used to examine the effectiveness of the

anti-burglar device by conducting different tests such as proximity test and duration test. The

study will be conducted on September to December 2022 at Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija

3100.

The materials that will be used will be bought at Electronik Hub located at Silangan St.,

Brgy. Bantug Bulalo, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Eija 3100. The anti-burglar device that will be

designed and developed by the researcher will have a surveillance camera that is connected to

homeowner cellphone or computer, the device will use a PIR motion detector to serve as an

indicator when someone intrudes to homeowner’s property and will trigger the buzzer to create

sound to alarm the homeowner. The device will use battery and solar panel as its source of power

and electricity to operate it self. The researcher will also use a switch in order to control the

device whenever they want it to use. Meanwhile, the device will undergo on proximity and

duration testing to acquire the results. The collection of data will be done through observation

and then the gathered data will be interpreted.
