My school

Our school is called Secondary School of Civil Engineering. It was founded over 40 years
ago. Originally the school was situated in another part of our town, not too far from its
present place. Nevertheless, it has been in this building for over 16 years.

The school premises are quite large. There is a 5-storey building where theoretical subjects
are taught. There are two gyms which are being reconstructed right now and a big sports
field with two tennis courts. There is a school canteen which serves two choices of meals
every day. Behind the building there is a big parking lot and if you go further back behind the
custodian´s house there are vocational training workshops.

On the ground floor when you enter the school, there are cloakrooms with students´ lockers
on either side of the entrance hall. There are also some specialized technical classrooms. On
the first floor there is a head teacher´s office, a deputy head´s office, an administrative office,
an assembly hall and a fairly new architecture classroom.

On the second floor there are classrooms for trainees.

On the third floor there are classrooms for four years students.

On the fourth floor there are classrooms such as computer labs and classrooms for
specialized technical subjects.

Each floor has got teacher´s offices, there is a school library on the fourth floor and there is a
study room in the hall way near the canteen. There are a few specialized language labs too.
There are toilets on each floor and places around the school where students can relax.

Students of four year studies finish their education with a Maturita Exam which consists of
two state compulsory subjects: Czech language and English language or Maths, and
specialized subjects based on their specialization. The specializations at our school can be
Technical Equipment of Buildings, Civil Engineering or Architecture. Students also have to
show their practical skills during their practical exam or present their project. The exams are
both oral and written.

Trainees at our school study for three years and finish their education with an exam too. It
takes form of an oral and a practical exam. If they are successful then they receive a
vocational certificate. Trainees can get their education in various vocational courses which
prepare them for jobs of an electrician, a joiner, a carpenter, a plumber, a bricklayer, or a
painter.

Sometimes trainees decide to continue in their education wishing to get their Maturita and
they study for two more years in their specialization.
