thing, tale, piece of news, news, or short story of something new)
 A long printed story about imaginary characters and events.

Novel

 Most of the definitions highlight the word ‘prose’ meaning the
common or ordinary spoken form of language without the
presence of poetic rhythmic structure.
 Prose is opposite to verse.
 It is mostly based on narration and description.
 As an extended narrative, the novel is distinguished from short
story and from novellette, its magnitude permits a greater
variety of characters, greater complication of plot(plots), as well
as multiple setting

Short Story & Novel

 Length : as the name suggests short stories are shorter
than novels, or we can say that these stories can be
completed in one sitting, whereas the novels are
broader with words, character, and as well as
narration.
 Plot
Short stories usually contain a single basic plot and it
hardly has any subplot whereas the novels have
multiple plots, with different dimensions and
possibilities of different subplots.
Short Story & Novel

 Characterization
The length of the short story forces the author to have
fewer characters generally focuses on 1 to 2
characters.

 In novel there are multiple characters followed by

protagonist, antagonist, and multiples of fewer
characters.
Short Story & Novel

 Short stories are easier to read than the novel
because it is shorter in length with no complex
plot. A reader is most likely to read easily.
Novels are complex, to read a novel one has to
read so many chapters and invest quality time in
it.
 Novels focus on character development more than
plot.
