This Special Release presents data on construction statistics from approved building
permits for the National Capital Region (NCR) Provincial Statistical OfFce lll - City of
Taguig for the First Quarter ol 2O2O. FQures are based on the prdiminary results of
the tabulated data trom collected buiHing permits.
The number of approved building permits in tle City of Taguig decr€sd W 42.4
percent to 159 during the first quarter oI 2O2o fiorn 276 of the same quarter of the
previous year. Horever, the total value of construction increased by 1fl).3 percent to
?8.6 billion during the first quarter ot 2O2O from ?4.3 billion of the same quarter of
2019.
Relative to the entire region, the City of Taguig contributed 8.0 percent to the number
of approved building permits and 28.3 percent to the total value of construction during
the first quarter ol 2O2O. See Table 1 for details.

The number oJ residentialtypes of building decreases by 37.0 percent to 5.1 during the
first quarter of 2020 from 81 during the same period of the previous year. Ttre nuirber
of non-residential types of building decreases W 46.7 percent to io during the first
quarter of2020 ftom 30 ofthe same quarter ofthe prcvious year.
Also, combined approved building permits for additions, alterations and repairs went
dqln by 44.2 percent to 92 buitding permits during the frst quafte+ of 202ti fio{n 16s
of the same quarter of the prevbus year.

Among the types of resi<lential buiHing, single residential units registered the highest
number of approved fuiHing permits with 29 applicatbns or 56-9 perceni and
apartmenuaccessoria recorded the highest nalue of consffUclim amorntirB to p0.13
billion or 65.9 percent of the btal mlue of resklential building constnrction.

Among the types of non+esidential building, the cornmercial type tecorded the highest
total number with 10 applit:atbns, comprising 62.5 percent of the total number while
institutional type records the higfr€st aggregate value of ?8,068.5 million or 98.5
percent of the total value of non-residential building construction.

Private construction sitatistics from approved building permits relate to new construciions and
additions, alterations and repairs of existing residential and non-residential buildings and other
s1ruc{ures underlaken in all regions/provinces of the counlry.
Source of lnformation
Data are from the original applications of approved building permits collected by psA-NCR
Provincial statistical office lll field personnel from Local Building ofliciats in the ciry of raguig.
Limitations:
1. Data on building conslruciions refer to those approved applications during the reference
period and not to construciion n,ork completed during the reference period.
2. The completeness of the number of building pemils collected Elies on the approval of
applications filed with the LBOs. Hence, private building conslructions wilhout approved
building permits are exduded in the tabulation of data.
Deftnition of Terms:
Building Permit - A written authorization granted by the Local Building Ofncial (LBO) to an
applicant alloMng him to proceed with the construc{ion of a specific projed der plans,
specifications and other pertinent docurnents have been found to be in conformity wilh the
National Building Code (PD 1096).
Building - Any independent, freestanding structure comprised of one or more rooms or other
spaces, covered by a roof and endGed with extemal walls or dMding walls, which extend
from the foundation to the rcof.
Constructon - All on-site work done from sile preparation, excavation, foundation, assembly
of all the components and installation of utilities and equipment of buildings/struc{ures.
Residential Building - A building for which its major parts or more than half of its gross floor
area built for dwelling purposes. This type of building can be of the single type, duplex, an
apartment and/or accessoria and residential condominium.
Single House - A complete struc{ure intended for a single family or household, i.e.
bungalm,, 2-storey house, nipa hut.
Duplex - A structure intended for two households, with complete living facilities for
each; it is a singte struc{ure divided into two dwelling units by a wall extending from the
floor to the ceiling.
Accessoria-ls a one or twofloor struc{ure divided into several dwelling units, each
dwelling unit having its own separate entrance from the outside.
Commcrcial Buildings - Ofhce buildings and all buildings that are ir ended for use
primarily in rrholede, retail and service tracbs; i.e. dorcs, hdds, rcstaurants, banks,
etc.
lndustrial Buildings - Buildings which are used to house the production, assembly
and warehousing activities of induslrial establishnEr s; i.e- faciories, plants, mills,
repair shops, machine shops, printing press, storage plant, eleciric generating plants
Addition - Any new conSruction thd inseases the height or are,a of an exisling
building/$rudue.
Floor Area of BuiEing - The sum of the area of eactr floor of the building measured to the
outer surface d the outer walls induding the area of lobbies, cellars, devator shafts and all
@mmunal sprc in mutli{wellings. Areas of bahonies are exduded.
Total Value of Construc{ion - The sum of the cost of building, elec{rical, mechanical,
plumbing, and olhers. The yalue is deri\red fom the appro\red building permit and represents
the eslimated value of the building or stndure when comde{ed.
