CONTENT:

BIOS- Basic input output system.

Firmware that is built into the computer’s motherboard.

-Initializes the computer’s hardware asa the computer is beding booted.

-It then searches for a boot device (optical or storage drive) to boot software, such as an operating
system.

POST- POWER ON SELF TEST.

The bios is stored on the bios chip on the motherboard.

The bios chip is not volatile.

CMOS- The bios settings are stored on the motherboard in the CMOS chip.

- The cmos chip is volatile,

- The cmos battery maintains these settings.
- The cmos chip needs constant power to maintain its content or settings.
- If the cmos battery is removed, the bios will, reset back to its default settings.
- Erase any c ustom settings that you have configured.

UEFI-

-USER FRIENDLY, GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE.

-Recognizes larger storage drives.

-able to use a mouse in the interface.

SECURE BOOT- built in feature in UEFI that stops any digitally unsigned drivers from loading and helps to
stop malicious SOFTWARE, SUCH AS ROOTKITS.

HYPER-THREADING- technology develop by inter the cpu run more efficiently .

-virtually doubles the amount of cores that’s on the cpu.

-First introduced by intel in 2002, debuted on the Pentium 4 and Xeon processors.

CONTENT:

RAM- RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY

-Stored on the motherboard in modules thatb are called DIMMs (DUAL INLINE MEMORY MODULE)..

- Can have 168, 184, 240, or 288 pins.

-RAM is installed on the motherboard in the memory slots, requires constant electrical power to store
data.

TYPES OF RAM

1.DRAM- DYNAMIC RAM- Contains capacitors, capacitors have to be refreshed with electricity
constantly.

-Operayes asynchronously with with the system clock.

2. SDRAM- SYNCHRONOUS DYNAMIC RAM- Used today in ram dimms.

-Operates synchronously with the system clock.
