To verify link polygon method for various Coplanar

Forces
Objectives
Lab Report # 2

 To find forces in link polygon by graphical method.

 To check validity of law of polygon.
Apparatus
 Set square
 Thumb pins
 A3 sheets
 Weights (0.5-2lb)

Theory Background
 Law of Polygon
States that “If there are some coplanar forces acting at a point and if
system is in equilibrium, then by taking suitable scale, we can draw
polygon and so can find the resultant forces. This is graphical method
for finding the forces in polygon by constructing it according to the
suitable scale”

Figures
Lab Report # 2

Procedure
 Make arrangement of the apparatus.
 Attach the weights on across of link polygon & also in the middle.
Lab Report # 2

 Take a sheet of paper & fix it on board with the help of pins.
 Make sure the system is in equilibrium.
 Now by using mirror, indicate the points of image of string.
 By joining these points complete the figure.
 Select a suitable scale in order to represent weight forces on
diagram.
 Find the tension in the string by measuring sides with the scale &
converting them back into forces.

Calculations
Scale
1lb = 2inch
0.5lb = 1inch

Result
T1 = 1lb T2 = 1lb
T3 = 0.5lb T4 = 0.5lb
T5 = 0.5lb T6 = 0.96lb
T7 = 0.7lb T8 = 0.45lb
Lab Report # 2

T9 = 0.45lb T10 = 0.7lb
