The gas attack that was in Syria

(Word Count: 560 words approx.)

In Syria’s civil war, chemical weapons have been happening after-thought again and again,

which has deprived of abundant of lives. In this war,a sarine nerve gas alonwith mustard gas

has been accentuated this continuous enactment. And this sarine nerve gas has emerged as the

most gloomily use chemical weapon in form of chlorine gas in the war. Even the first global

treaty for use of chemical weapons in war was came into effect in 1997 that prohibited the

use, development, manufacturing, accumulating and transporting of chemical weapons. The

sarine gas i.e. Chlorine attack in Ghouta in 2013 resulted in the death of 1000 people, out of

them there were about 500 children.

It has been documented that about 24 chlorine gas attacks in Syria since 2013, of which 40

people were dead and hundreds were harmed. These circumstances arise questions that

“What role has chlorine gas played in Syria’s civil war? And what has been human

casaulties in this regard?”

As chlorine gas is a strangling medium. This gas can cause the lungs failure, soreness in eyes,

nausea, coughing and sometimes death. Chlorine may also a reason of effecting

psychological in way of fear, shock and panic.

“The main reason of chlorine gas used in Syria was to result in shock and panic and to

compel the people to run away. And it actually happened in most of the cases.” said by a

witness. (Geiger, 2017)

Recently there was air raids of chemical attacks in Syria’s Idlib province which resulted in

the death of 70 people and more than 500 injured. One of the eye witness reported;

“It is beyond words, as we experienced of watching people suffocating and wheezing. And

the most difficult to watch the children, as we stood there not able to give any aid and

health practitioner sprinkled them with water to disburse the chemical substances”.
When total four air strikes hit on the certain area in Syria, it was seen the dead bodies all over

the ground and many injured were sent to the emergency units and hospitals, and the mostly

out of them were women and children.

There were three or four gas bomb attacks in the same area within the range of half a

kilometre. “Can anybody imagine? There were four gas bomb attacks and hundreds of

people were lying dead on the scene. And there was nearly no time for people to respond”.

It was reported by local health practitioners that these air strikes caused people to disgorge

and release mucus from their mouths. ("Worst Chemical Attack in Years in Syria;

U.S. Blames Assad", 2017)

One of the sight witness narrated as; “The scene is awful that can ever be explained.

Everybody was crying and clutching on watching their own children die in pain”. One of

the health officials reported that there were about 600 injured people in hospitals and among

them were children and women. He added “ Weak victims suffered the most. Children

suffered the most. Among the dead people, most were children and that was dreadful scene

to watch”. (Najjar, 2017)

Even many hospitals in Syria were attacked and caused of short staffed with insufficient

medical supplies. People in Syria, especially in Idlib, are now so frightened and they are

frightened to be the next sufferers of the chemical attacks. We have seen such tolls and

circumstances in social, print and electronic media, but in actuality, we had never realized

this before.
