(Brief Overview)
Since ancient times, people have been plowing our land for purposes of farming
and raising livestock. Agriculture expansion, wood extraction such as logging or wood
gathering for home fuel or charcoal, infrastructure expansion such as road building, and
urbanization are the direct causes of deforestation. Serious problems like the
greenhouse effect have increased as a result of deforestation because of the excess
carbon compounds in the air. (During this narration, you can show clips of deforestation
and its harmful effects to our environment.)
Did you know that half of the forests that originally covered 46% of the Earth's
land are gone? According to National Defense Council, only one-fifth of the Earth's
original forests remain pristine and undisturbed. Isn't that a little bit off the chart?
Let us first define reforestation to see where this is really going. (The narrator can
show himself in the video while saying this.)
Here are the top three reasons why reforestation should push through.
By reforesting areas that have recently been cleared of trees, we can responsibly
and sustainably supply this abundant natural resource. Wood acts as a "carbon sink,"
absorbing carbon dioxide, the primary contributor to global warming, and releasing
oxygen into the atmosphere.
Last but not the least, reforestation is the best way to stop biodiversity loss and
restore the natural habitats of forest animal species. It is possible to sustain or improve
biodiversity, which helps increase the resilience of the forest and makes it more able to
endure disasters, by recovering forests that have been damaged, whether by natural
disasters or human-led deforestation.
(Conclusion)
(To serve as the concluding statement, both of you can say these lines together or you
can have your fair share of lines.)
Everyone can help – so do your part, plant a seedling today, and use what
resources you have wisely. For both the current and future generations, let us make the
world a better place for everyone.
