The firefighting system has been designed to supply firefighting water to the development site
with fire hydrants. The system comprises of fire hydrants and pipe network including all
relevant appurtenances which are required to convey water to the fire hydrants.
`
Outside Port
Area SMEC
scope
The firefighting water flow requirement for the external fire hydrants has been considered to
have a maximum of 3 fire hydrant @ 56.8 l/sec for 1 hour as per Design Criteria and
Requirements for Water Distribution Works, MEW.
1.3 Pressure
According to MEW and KFSD code of practices the following recommendations has been
considered:
The minimum service pressure that must be maintained at a fire hydrant should not
be less than 38 m, which is in line with KFSD requirements.
The maximum service pressure that must be maintained in the firefighting water
network will be not exceed 46 m.
1.5 Cover
The crown of the proposed firefighting water storage pipeline will be placed at a depth of 1.0m
from the finished ground level. In case if it is less than 1.0m, the pipes shall be protected by
concrete encasement.
It is envisaged that the pipes shall observe 0.30m vertical clearance and the horizontal
clearance as per defined standard services corridors at all junctions, road crossings and road
stretches.
