Nouns also have possessive nouns

Possessive nouns are used to show OWNERSHIP.


When you show ownership, your are telling people that there are things that belongs
to you, and there are things that belongs to other people!

Let's go and check out the rules of possessive nouns!

Possessive nouns - Rules

Add an apostrophe and an s ('s) to the name of the owner.

Example: boy's shirt / teacher's things / driver's keys

Add an apostrophe only if the owner's name is in the form of a plural form.

Example: students' performances / families' gathering / painters' artworks

Add an apostrophe and as s ('s) if the owner's name is in its irregular plural
form.

Example: children's school / men's tuxedos / data's results

Add an apostrophe and an s ('s) to proper names.

Example: Mr. Dela Cruz's photograph / Mrs. Bautista's garden / Lisa's costumes

Possessive nouns -Rules

If an item is owned by two or more persons (joint ownership), add an apostrophe and
an -s ('s) to the name of the last person.

Example: Sam and Marie's mother


Daniel, Trevor and john's experiment

If an item is owned by two or more persons (seperate ownership), add an apostrophe


and an -s ('s) to ALL names given.

Example: Anna's and Betty's parents

Collections are great examples if we need to talk about


COLLECTIVE NOUNS.

Collective nouns are nouns that are used to refer a collection of things. A
collection is considered one whole unit or one whole thing.

MASS NOUNS are nouns that cannot be counted.


The opposite of mass nouns are count nouns.

COUNT NOUNS are nouns that can be counted.

-If it is added in the beginning of the root word, it is called a PREFIX

-If it is added at the end, it is called a SUFFIX

Notes and tips!

-Some words must be changed when adding suffixes, this is why it is confusing.
Don't worry, here are examples:

-Double the consonant as in SWIMMING, SHOPPED, or SMALLER

-For some words ending with l (small L), double it then add the suffix (CONTROLLED
PROPELLER, FULFILLMENT)
-Drop the silent e like in ADORE- ADORABLE / TRUE- TRULY / ARGUE- ARGUMENT

-Sometimes, keep the final e like in NOTICEABLE and COURAGEOUS
