The material for castings shall basically be supplied in accordance with NEN-EN 10213 Werkstoff
Nr 1.4470 (GX2CrNiMoN22-5-3) with modifications as per this specification.
The chemical composition of the castings as determined by the methods outlined in ASTM E353
shall basically conform to the requirements specified in NEN-EN 10213, table 2. Any additional
element shall be stated on the certificate and shall have written approval of parties concerned.
No deviation from this basic composition will be permitted, Heat/Ladle analysis should conform
to product analysis.
Mill certificates shall be provided for each heat and shall show a pitting resistance equivalent
(PRE) of 33.0 minimum, calculated with the following formula:
PRE = % Cr + 3.3 x % Mo + 16 x % N.
The Ferrite content shall range between 40% and 60% as determined by the methods outlined in
paragraph 10.2.6 of this specification, to be determined after final heat treatment.
The chemical composition shall be determined for each HEAT of steel. The analysis shall cover all
the elements specified in paragraph 10.1.1 and the Manufacturer shall report each analysis
performed on mill certificates.
In addition to the requirements as specified in the applicable codes and standards the following
shall apply.
At +20oC the ultimate tensile and specified minimum yield strength shall conform to the
following values:
UTS = 620 - 800 MPa
SMYS = 450 MPa
The material shall meet an elongation requirement of minimum 20% on an approved gauge
length.
Mechanical testing shall be performed on each heat of the melting furnace. For castings with a
mass > 1000 kg: one mechanical test per casting.
10.2.3 Re-tests
If one of the test specimens fails to meet the specified requirements, the castings may only be
accepted on the basis of re-tests on samples from the same lot. Number of re-tests to be agreed
with parties concerned.
Charpy-V notch impact tests shall be performed in accordance with EN-ISO 148. The impact test
temperature shall be minus 20oC and at this temperature, the material shall display the following
energy values for full size (10 mm x 10 mm) specimens:
A macro section shall be taken and a hardness survey shall be made on the cast parts after final
heat treatment. Hardness shall not exceed 286 HV. The macro section shall be polished and
etched to reveal the grain structure and differentiate the phases.
The ferrite content shall be between 40 and 60 % and shall be determined by point-counting or
line analysis in accordance with ASTM E562 methods and be confirmed by micro photographs.
The presence of phases other than ferrite oraAustenite shall be a cause for rejection.
Test coupons shall be integrally cast and shall correspond to the decisive wall thickness of the
casting. If the design of the castings is such that test coupons could not be attached thereon,
written approval shall be obtained from the parties concerned. Test coupons shall be solution
annealed together with the casting.
As per ASME B16.34, examination must be performed on 10% of each cast, (all critical areas) after
the last heat treatment.
A corrosion test in accordance with ASTM A923 Test method C and or ASTM G48 Test method A
@ 25 °C for min. 24 hours is required. Acceptance criteria for G48-A shall be according to ASTM
