Initially my assumptions for Pay and Salary were narrow. I always tend to define the course
name and this is what I found... Pay and salary administration is defined as the process by which
pay and salary stages and assemblies are set in organizational settings. Salaries are payments for
many different services and can be given in hourly rates, in weekly, monthly or yearly rates. But
I didn’t know what exactly was going to be covered and it hadn’t occurred to me that the details
of this course were even a thing. Now that I have pursued the course, I realize the substantial
amount of information I was missing when it came to how salaries were administrated and how
the payroll works as a whole. Specifically, I’m intrigued with the way many departments have
some effect and control when it comes to salaries. The importance of this course has shown itself
over time and I now completely comprehend the way things work generally at most entities. That
is something I didn’t expect to learn from one course only.

I never felt intimidated by the course. But since we have started the project, my initial
assumptions were exceeded and the course made more sense. The project has changed my
perspective specifically when it comes to contacting companies. I never thought any company
would be so willing to answer college students. Of course, that is after a previously bad
experience with contacting companies for other courses. I guess that was a one-time issue with
that specific companies’ internal affairs. The project taught me patience when collecting
information is the key to receiving sufficient and useful information. I also learned that projects
can be made fun and relatable to everyday life. We chose Etisalat for a reason and now we have
a better understanding of their company as a whole, how they work and how they treat
customers. They also treat there staff well and I am surprised the disclosed the amount of
information they did as usually that doesn’t happen. I am happy we chose them and I hope their
reputation is restored as currently nobody is 100% happy with them. Since our conversation with
them we determined that it’s the 3rd parties that they are hiring mostly that are ruining things for
customers. Their company as a whole is run a lot better than that and they focus on customers.
But nothing is perfect and everything requires trial and error to finalize the knots in their
operations.

The project as a whole initially didn’t intimidate me as much as the amount that was asked of our
group regarding the project. Usually, we max out at 2500 words and simple information. For this
project we all learned the meaning of actual work. The project was able to change my
assumptions in terms of the course first of all. It adds value to it. It also clarified that sometimes
extensive work is required to reach a point of justification that makes sense to everyone. We as a
team all had fun and learnt a lot along the ride. That is also something I didn’t expect at first. Of
course, we had our ups and downs but we managed to get it done and come to an agreement
eventually. And I’m assuming that’s the main skill we had to learn when it came to the project. I
see myself using these skills in the future and I hope future students have a similar experience as
this is crucial to life. Skills that will affect their performance and if used correctly will help them
join the workforce more smoothly. These skills will also boost their sustainability and will help
them be self-sufficient.

Our course and our project taught me personally how to manage time more efficiently and to
value every task at hand even it seems tiring at first. The many things I have learned from this
course and this project all will apply when I join the workforce again. The fact that I was the
group leader this semester helps me worry less for later on when I have to play the role of leader.
Leadership skills can come from any course…
