SYNTH VARIANT - A Fan-made Automata for Solo Play

IN THE EVENT OF OVERSEER DEATH

If you are reading this, your overseer is dead. Do not despair, as Vault-Tec have prepared
for this situation and would like to let you in on a little secret... Some of your fellow
vault-dwellers are synthetics! We hope they will be of service managing the vault. In fact,
we think you’ll be so happy with them that they’ll be elected as the new vault overseers!

SETUP AND RULES

This variant uses an automata (referred to throughout as the Synth) to replicate a second
player. Setup, rules and victory conditions are unchanged, except the Synth starts with
the first player token.

On the Synth’s turn, follow the orders on the table on the second page. The first order
should be carried out. If this is not possible, move to the next order. Proceed in this
fashion until the Synth has placed a dweller.

Where an order has ‘OR’, if the first part of that order cannot be performed, continue
along the order until the condition are met. If they are not, proceed to the next order.

‘IF’, ‘ONLY’ and ‘UNLESS’ indicate that an order should only be performed when certain
requirements are met.

When the Synth is instructed to purchase an item, fight or obtain resources, the tables on
page 3 outline the Synth’s priorities in these situations. Start with the first option in the
table. If there is still more than one definitive option, keep working down the relevant
table to determine the Synth’s priority and eliminate ties between multiple options.

If at anytime there are multiple possible choices that the orders are unable to resolve, the
Synth will always prioritise obtaining happiness, utilising neutral or Synth owned spaces,
using a space that obtains SPECIAL training or using a space that blocks
the human player.

This variant was designed by Adam Ryder. Contact through BGG.com @Trembot.

I hope you enjoy playing. After a couple of games, running the Synth becomes
intuitive and varied. Feedback welcome.
