THE COMPARATIVE DEGREE

• This degree is used to compare two person, things or actions.

Structure
- “er” or “more” is added to the adjective to show the degree of comparison
Subject (name 1) + verb + Adjective (er) + than + name 2
more + adjective

Ex: Dan is happier than Joe.


Dan is more handsome than Joe.
THE SUPERLATIVE DEGREE

• The degree is used when more than two persons or things are compared.
Structure

“est” or “most” is added to adjective to show the superlative degree.


“the” is used before superlative adjectives.
Subject (name) + verb + the+ adjective (est) + (in + name of place)
most + adjective

Ex: Layla is the tallest student in the class.


Layla is the most beautiful girl in the world.
