ASSESSMENT
Art influences society by changing opinions, instilling values, and
translating experiences across space and time. Research has shown art affects that fundamental sense of self. Painting, sculpture, music, literature, and other arts are often considered to be the repository of a society’s collective memory. Artists keep, make, and transform meaning. It is what they do. Their relationship to place, in addition to inhabiting it, is to see it and listen to it. Whether intentionally or not, every creative act, every moment of imagination and expression in a place, contributes to that place’s shape. An artist can follow, uplift and provoke with their work. Art is a reflection or extension of personality and it is so versatile that artist can take whatever role they wish, given the right art for a given set of social circumstances. The artist provides the society with emotion color, and texture. Scientists think up to make life easier. Builders and technicians turn those scientific ideas into tangible objects. These things helps us. They blend our food, put roofs over our heads, make mowing the lawn easier. But they never add real emotion like what artists can do. Art gives us meaning and helps us understand our world. Scientific studies have proven that art appreciation improves our quality of life and makes us feel good. When we create art, we elevate our mood, we improve our ability to problem solve, and open our minds to new ideas. A simple art can change one person’s emotion and perspective in life. And that’s the role of Artists, it is to add emotions, bring life, and change everyone’s perspective.
