Living in IT Era

Answer the following briefly:

1. For you, what is Computer Science? Information Technology?

In my own understanding, Computer Science is the study of how computers work and how
to empirically apply and make use of the principles. It includes both the study of theoretical
algorithms and the practical issues that arise when putting them into practice using computer
hardware and software. Information Technology, on the other hand, is anything that has something
to do with disseminating information through the means of innovation. Best example of that is
internet and computers, they have the power to take one information to another with the use of
technology.

2. What have you learned from your computer/ICT subjects before? Enumerate these concepts
or terms

• In my grade 8 class, I have learned the evolution of computers, from analog to digital.
• I will never forget that Charles Babbage is the father of the computer.
• But more than just facts, in grade 10 ICT elective, we have learned how to actually make a
UTP cable that works!
• In grade 11, we were taught how to design a website, as well as how hyperlinks work and
how to actually apply them.
3. Do you like math/computer subjects? For you, is math/computer hard subjects? Why?
Where can you apply your knowledge in your everyday life?

I cannot answer this with a simple “yes” or “no”. Because how I feel with math/computer
subjects are not just black and white, gray areas play a huge part in it too. My inclinations are not
towards the logical stuff, like these ones. Meaning to say they are not my passion, forte, or
something I find myself doing naturally. But I understand their value in my life and its significance
to the world I’m living in. Besides, studying math/computer is fun too!
Yes, for me they are challenging. Since as aforementioned above, I am not inclined in the
logical/empirical things, rather I find myself more engaged and passionate about the creative part of
life. I find it hard for the sole reason of, I’m not inherently good nor interested in it, but I like it
nevertheless.
When it comes to application, more than the obvious benefits that the basic knowledge of
math and computer brings (being mathematically/computer literate), it also develops my critical and
analytical thinking in such a way that I learned how to take calculated risks in littlest to biggest
decisions, and I brought that aspect in my life.
