PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter comprises the presentation, analysis and interpretation of the

gathered data relevant to the study of the the Potential in Computer/Technology Skills of

DCPNHS SHS Students SY 2022-2023.

Table 1 below presents the responses of the participants to the interview

question number one that tackles the computer literacy based on their personal opinion.

Table 1
Are you good at operating computer? If no, why?
R1 YES

R2 YES

NO, kanang wala man goy koy computer or laptop sa balay na ma

R3
(NO, uhm we don’t have computer or laptop in our home to use or practice

on it maybe that’s why I’m not good at using computer and I don’t have

much experience on computer related stuff. I don’t often play at computer

cafes before except on the reason that I don’t have much money, there

also no computer shop nearby in my hometown.

R4 NO, wako maanad anang computer, wa sad mi computer sa among bay

18
tas mahadlok sad ko mag kuri kuri computer kay wako maanad lage. Diko

tig dung computer shop bae man sad gud ko nya kasukan ko nila mama

og papa hahaha

(NO, I’m not familiar with computers, and we don’t have computer at home

and I’m frightened at operating computer because im not familiar with it. I

don’t go to computer shop ,aybe because I’m a girl and my parents will

scold me if I will)

In table 1 which states, whether they’re good or not at operating computer, two

(2) of the respondents answered that yes they consider themselves good at operating

computer and two (2) of the respondents answered that no they consider themselves

not good at operating computer because having a limited experience and no equipment

to use such as computers/laptop.

Table 2 below presents the responses of the participants to interview question

number two, which asks whether if the respondents think they have potential in

computer skills

Table 2
Do you think that you have potential in computer skills?
R1 YES

R2 YES

R3 BASIN(MAYBE) HAHAHAHAHA

R4 NOT SURE, MAYBE?

19
In table 2 which state, If they have potential in computer skill two (2) of the

respondents answer that yes they have potential at computer skills, and another two

answered maybe they have potential they just not aware and sure because they hardly

use computer (lack of material).

Table 3 below presents the responses of the participants to interview question

number three, which asks on how did computer skill help them at their school works.

Table 3
How did computer skill help you at your work/School work?
Computer skill help me at school by making in doing my assignments and
R1
performance task easy, it also help me in studying

Computer skill really helps a lot specially in school there are a lot of task

R2 that need to computer to accomplish such as making ppts like computer

really makes school works much easier specially with internet

Dako tabang computer skill uy samot na sa pag search search tas kanang

print print na project samot karon sa amo research nagamit jud nako

computer bahalag di kaayo kamao type type ra simple ra.

R3
(Computer skill helps me a lot special when to searching and printing like

in projects, computer skill really helps in our research even though I’m not

good at atleast typing like just simple)

R4 Computer skill help me in doing my school project and assignments

specially if need e print and in our research I learned new things sa

20
pagoperate sa microsoft word my classmates teach me how to hehe.

All the respondents’ response says that computer skills is very helpful in their

academic performance such as doing their assignments and performance task, table 2

showed that computer skill is important and all the respondents blurted out that

computer skill make their work easy. Computer skills play a crucial role in enabling

students to accept and use technology effectively for their school work, aligning with the

key constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology computer

skills empower students to embrace technology as a valuable tool in their educational

journey. According to Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT),

individuals are more likely to accept and use technology when they perceive that it will

improve their performance. Computer skills enable students to utilize various digital

tools and resources to enhance their learning and complete school work more

efficiently. For example, they can use word processing software to write essays, create

presentations, or perform data analysis using spreadsheet programs. The ability to

effectively use technology boosts students' confidence in their capabilities and

enhances their performance in academic tasks.

Table 4 below presents the responses of the participants to interview question

number four, which asks if they believe that computer skill is important or not

Table 4
How important is computer skill to you?

21
R1 VERY IMPORTANT

R2 VERT IMPORTANT

R3 VERY IMPORTANT

R4 VERY IMPORTANT

All of the respondents answers suggest that computer skill is very important for

them. One of the respondents mentioned that computer skill is one of the requirements

when it comes to jobs so it’s essential to have computer skill just like in the republic

order number 37 1997 In line with the moderation program of Department of Education

which requires teacher to be a computer literate. DEPED advice those teacher-

applicants with no computer background are advised to have a crash course this

summer to be able to present certification on computer literacy before he/she will be

accepted for teaching job.

Table 4 below presents the responses of the participants to interview question

number four, which asks how will they improve their computer skills what method will

they use and what factor will they consider.

Table 5
How will you improve your computer skills?
R1 I can improve my computer skills by practicing, practicing at operating

computers watch videos and tutorial and also I can learn it at our school as

an CSS student our major is responsible for our improvement at computer

22
operations

Consistent practice is crucial for improving computer skills. Allocate

dedicated time each day or week to practice what I’m learning. The more i

practice, the better I’ll become. Also an CSS student here in DCPNHS our
R2
teacher really guided as well we can clearly see that we improve, I

improve.

Because Bolhi provided us a complete resources to practice to.

Practice jud ana btaw sila practice makes perfect pero sa akong kaso kay

waman koy ma practicesan lage mao siguro diko anad hahaha pero kung

hatagan ko chance maka practice why not importanti man gud kayo

makahibaw computer.
R3
(Practice! just like the quote practice makes perfect but in my case I don’t

have the equipment to practice to maybe that’s the reason why I’m not

good at computer but if ever ill be given a chance to practice why not,

computer skills is so important.

First I need to have computer or laptop so I can be able to practice and

R4 becomes familiar at that kind of stuff, while since I don’t equipment

watching videos and reading books will also help me in improving.

All of the respondents’ responses say that to improve computer skills, they need

to practice operating computers so that they will become accustomed to them. Two of

the respondents also said that their school helps them improve as they are CSS

students, which prioritizes computer literacy, and another two respondents give a hint

23
that for them to improve, they need to have resources to use and to practice, and that's

what restraining them from being competent in computers. We can connect their reason

to the Theory of Acceptance. According to the Theory of Acceptance, there are two key

factors that affect the acceptance and usage of technology: perceived usefulness and

perceived ease of use. When students perceive that improving their computer skills will

be useful to their academic or future career success, they are more likely to engage in

activities that enhance those skills. They understand that computer skills are essential in

today's digital world and recognize the benefits of being proficient in using technology.

Moreover, perceived ease of use plays a significant role. Students are more likely to

embrace activities that improve their computer skills if they perceive them as easy to

learn and use. If they find the learning materials, online courses, or tutorials user-

friendly and accessible, it increases their motivation to invest time and effort into

improving their skills.

Table 6 below presents the responses of the participants to interview question

number 6, which asks if the respondents agree that that teenager/kids in today’s

generation has potential In computer related skills? Why?

Table 6
Do you agree that teenager/kids in today’s generation has potential In computer related
skills? Why?
R1 Yes, teenagers today has immense potential in computer skill because thet

24
are part of the "digital native" generation, having grown up in a

technologically advanced era. They have been exposed to computers,

smartphones, and the internet from an early age, which makes them

comfortable and familiar with technology.

Yes, if we compare the old generation to us we can say that teenager

nowadays has more potential because teenagers today have greater

access to technology than ever before. They often have their own
R2
smartphones, laptops, or tablets, and have access to high-speed internet

connections. This easy access to technology allows them to explore and

experiment with various computer skills and tools.

Yes, mga bata ron panahona anad jud kasagaran computer, if tanan

teenager hatagan computer like nako sure ko maanad jud og gamit

computer kay natural na skill na naas mga bata ron naanad nasad silag

mga cellphone tas napay internet so para nako lang naa jud.

(Yes, kids nowadays are usually good at computers and if all of the
R3
teenager will be given an access to computers I’m pretty sure that all of us

will be good at operating computer maybe because it is a natural skill

within the teenager nowadays and kid todays are familiar with gadgets and

there is also the internet so for me teenager nowadays has potential in

computer skill)

R4 Yes, they have potential in computer operation specially in this world full of

computers and with the use of internet that provides an abundance of

resources and learning platforms tailored to acquiring computer skills. Like

online courses, tutorials, coding websites, and youtube even facebook

25
which offer teenagers the flexibility to learn at their own pace and explore a

wide range of computer skills.

All of the respondents’ agreed that teenagers nowadays have potential in

computer skills. They all had various reasons, but the majority believed that teenagers

in this generation have a natural potential because they are already familiar with

computers, and the existence of the internet also affects their potential. The study by

Czaja et al. (1989) highlights the importance of attitudes towards computers in

determining individuals' engagement with technology.. Similarly, the positive attitudes

that teenagers often exhibit towards technology, including computers, can contribute to

their potential in computer skills. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and positive mindset can

drive their motivation to explore and learn various computer-related skills. The study

does not specifically address the concept of "digital natives," but it highlights the

potential advantages that come with growing up in a technologically advanced

environment. Teenagers, being part of the digital native generation, have been exposed

to technology from an early age. This exposure and familiarity give them a head start in

acquiring computer skills compared to older generations.

ANALYSIS OF THE CONDUCTED EXPERIMENT

The research was conducted among 4 respondents. They were put on an

experiment where the respondents were grouped into two (2) and two (2) respondents

per group. The first group was composed of students who said they were good at

computers, while the second group was composed of respondents who were not good

at computers. Both groups were given the same task, but the second group will be

26
guided by the researchers while the first group will have to finish the task on their own.

Both groups will have to finish the task in a span of 2 hours. The conducted experiment

was facilitated by Eng. Girley Kay L. Suarez a legal computer engineer.

The experiment conducted was success, both of the group was able to finish the

task given, first group finish the task 1 hour and 30 minutes span, while the second

group finish the task beyond 1 hour and 30 minutes but less than 2 hours note that the

second group are respondents who don’t have any major experience at computers and

hardly uses them, at first they hard time in doing the task but they learn faster than

expected with the guidance of the researchers the second group finish their task

correctly that you won’t believe that this is the people who got hard time operating

Microsoft word, the first group also finish the task easily and perfectly you can see that

they’re experience at operating computer.

In this experiment it was clearly discovered that teenager/kids in this generation

has potential in computer skill that even if they don’t have any major experience at

handling computer they still able to learn and adapt quickly, and improving in a fast rate.

The only factor limiting their computer skills are the lack of equipment.

CHAPTER III

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary and findings of the study. Consequently,

these findings become the basis for drawing conclusions of the results from which

insights could be formulated and corresponding recommendations could be offered.

27
Summary of Findings

The study revealed the following findings:

1. Respondents acknowledge the important of computer skill specially in academic

performances which help them in a various of ways, for the future specially job

related and for this digital native generation.

2. One of the reason why students/teenager has a low computer literacy was

because of the lack of equipment.

3. Students are part of the digital native generation, having grown up in a

technologically advanced era. They are familiar with computers, smartphones,

and the internet from an early age, making them comfortable with technology and

providing a strong foundation for developing computer skills.

4. Students has potential in computer skills even if they have experience or not in

computer operation with a proper guidance and equipment they’ll learn fast and

do their task correctly.

Conclusion

The researchers concluded that SHS students of DCPNHS SY 2022-2023 have

potential in computer and technology skills, and the major factor preventing them from

unlocking their potential is a lack of equipment and experience, this study supports the

theory of Arnold & Sutton (1998), Venkatesh et al. (2003), Gibson (2014). SHS

students, being part of the digital native generation, often perceive technology, including

computer skills, as dominant and essential in their lives. This perception of technology

28
dominance motivates them to explore and develop computer skills to keep up with

societal expectations and stay competitive Arnold & Sutton (1998) even if teenager

don’t have any major experience at handling computer they still able to learn and adapt

quickly, and improving in a fast rate. The only factor limiting their computer skills are the

lack of equipment this support the technology affordance theory SHS students, through

their potential in computer skills, demonstrate an understanding of technology

affordances. They are able to grasp the capabilities and functionalities of various

computer technologies, allowing them to utilize them effectively and adapt to different

software applications or programming languages Gibson (2014). Students nowadays

can adopt quickly in computer task no matter what their circumstances is just with

proper guidance and equipment they’ll learn quickly supported with the UTAUT posits

that individuals' acceptance and use of technology are influenced by factors such as

performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions.

SHS students' potential in computer skills aligns with these factors. They recognize the

performance benefits of acquiring computer skills, perceive the effort required as

manageable, are influenced by peers and teachers in their social environment, and

often have access to facilitating conditions like technology resources and educational

support Venkatesh et al. (2003).

The research findings support the notion that SHS student of DCPNHS has

potential in computer skills These findings are consistent with the arguments put forth

by other researchers, highlighting the importance of computer skills and with the help of

experiment we able able to see through their potential in computer skill.

29
Recommendations

To meet challenge revealed by the students, the following are suggested

• The researchers suggest that in order to improve computer skills of the students

the school must priority and implement computer literacy

• The researchers suggest highly recommend making a specialized subject for

computer literacy in every level to enhanced computer skill, a hand to hand teaching

must be conducted by the teacher major in computer

• The researchers highly recommend to advertise computer literacy to students to

start ICT major in JHS to make them motivated and interested in computer literacy

• The researchers suggest to the school administration to upgrade computer

laboratory and e tech library, more, new and upgraded equipment.
