OVERVIEW

• Quality and quantity of available biomass data in order

• to fully harness the biomass resource potential in each major
island group

• The study in Mindanao

Biomass Resources Covered in Luzon
Criteria for Site Selection in Luzon

Potential Biomass = (Total Biomass Energy Equivalent of Province – Total Energy Generation
Energy Equivalent Rating Potential of Biomass Power plants in the Province) / Highest Biomass
Energy Potential from Luzon)*100

Land Area Rating = (Land Area of Province / Highest Land Area among the Provinces of
Luzon)*100
Population Density Rating = (Population Density of Province / Highest Population Density among the
Provinces of Luzon)*100
Areas/Site Covered in Luzon
Biomass Share for Power Generation (SPG)

 SPG gave as a much realistic and practical

volume of biomass available for power
generation for each province. Competing
uses for biomass as energy source was also
subtracted, e.g. cooking, drying, etc.

Criteria for Site Selection in Visayas

• Top Potential Power Generator - Computed based on (1)

production data obtained from the DA-BAS Country Stats
database, and (2) the Residue to Product Ratio (RPR) figures
that were presented as part of the assumptions for resource
calculation by the 2010 UNDP-GEF –CBRED study on
“Biomass Resource Assessment of the Philippines”

• Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) Area – in consideration

of an off-grid area that can benefit from the study

• Possible contribution to poverty alleviation – in support to

the Philippine government’s initiative on poverty alleviation
