GROUP ONE ASSIGNMENT.

Heritage tourism should be developed and consumed in a responsible manner for sustainable tourism
development. Discuss in detail the key area pf focus in sustainable heritage tourism. (30 marks).
1. Climate action: Climate change can destabilize the ecosystem and reduce tourism patronage and
cause tourists destination shifts. However sustainable tourism tries to evade so by addressing the
climate change backed by action on the ground in ways such as incurring costs of heritage
conservation and protection the resources.
2. Effective Management: It plays a vital role in helping organizations in the industry achieve their
goals in preserving heritage tourism through ways such as raising public awareness with regard to
cultural heritage.
3. Environment Resources: They should include key element in tourism development maintaining
essential ecological processes and helping conserve natural heritage and biodiversity.
4. Education: Sustainable tourism offers excellent possibilities to achieve the development of
societies while contributing to the dissemination of heritage which implies the recovery,
conservation and evaluation of different heritage manifestations.
5. Awareness of sustainable tourism: This can be achieved through creating posters or pamphlets all
over tourism facilities so as to create awareness all over the places. Not only locally but also
internationally. Enhancing the spread of programs like the Sustainable Travel and Tourism
Agenda which focus on sustainability.
6. Hotel Energy Solutions: Hotel facilities should have adequate energy solutions in order to avoid
wastage of energy resources and also reduce cost of energy bills in the facilities. This can also
mean that hotel facilities should be designed in ways where the engineering is efficient and the
facility can also focus on natural lighting.
7. Social- cultural authenticity: Tourists experience tourist attractions set in different historic
periods. This offers the visitor a cultural experience in a manner that is appropriate, respectful and
true to the indigenous culture being portrayed.
8. Cultural diversity: It helps us recognize and respect ways of being that, that are not necessarily
our own so that we interact with others. This creates room for respecting and understanding our
cultures.
9. Destination Management: If destinations are well managed and taken care of, this will be a plus
one to the tourism sector this is because, the destination follows protocol for sustainability and
thus becoming effective in championing for the repetition of visits to the destination.
10. Economic Operations: Tourism highly depends on the economy of a region so as to determine
whether it will thrive or not. Therefore, economic operations should be efficient in a region so as
to promote sustainability.
